I cannot ride yet cause of recent and not serious back surgery. But I look forward to doing a lot of it in the spring and summer. Just because I’m falling apart doesn’t mean I have to stop doing what I love. I feel like Katharine Hepburn who said to me in her quaky voice while we were filming “On Golden Pond,” “ I’m going to live a long time, Jane, though I may spend the last of in in a chair.. All my organs are like spring chickens. It’s my joints that’ll get me.” Ditto to that.

See You Next Time

  1. Aww-I love that you shared that about Katharine Hepburn! Me and my joints feel your pain too! 😉

  2. I’m right behind you in age. Keep on inspiring me. Don’t want to hear what you can’t do…only what you can.

  3. The ranch looks beautiful in the snow. Oh, and we recently saw Monster-in-Law…you were great; very funny.

  4. Great photos!!!!

Fly fishing is my great love….when I am on a stream I am in a zone. Don’t care if I catch a fish or not, that’s just a bonus. It’s meditation.

Only ever done it here in NC, would love to try it out west some time!!!

    Hope your back heals quickly!

  5. Love your blogs, Jane. You are such a cool gal. Oh and I am a big fan of all your work too.

  6. When you use something it can wear out some , learning to deal with blindness has given me a interesting view of things not just the body and mind , but how other see you and how the care system works. People alway say “This will pass” as if it was some kind of gas that will be gone soon. You could always do a western.

  7. such pretty country…you’re a grand ol’ gal like Kate, for sure, a lot of spunk!

  8. May you too, Jane, live a long, happy and healthy life. I just can’t imagine the world without Jane Fonda in it!

  9. cold but a warmly atmosphere, i loved the last sentence with the citation of Katharine Hephburn, an example, now i’ll try to support my backache more philosophicallyF.D

  10. Jane,

I was curious. I love your OGP stories. Was Kate the type that stayed in touch after finishing a film? She’s a good role model for us all as we age. I still remember her going for her daily dip in the ocean well up into her 80s. I always say to myeslf when swimming it the cold atlantic ocean of New England, “If Kate can do it, I can do it.” I usually just jump in after that little chat. Seems like she has a similar impact on you.
Enjoy the holidays. Hard to believe it’s been almost a year since the play started and you started your blog.

  11. What a treat to see the snowy views warmed up with bundled up people! Thanks for sharing but am sad to learn about your back surgery. Wishing you speedy healing and happy surroundings.

  12. I love the riding photos with the horses. What a wonderful place with your ability to enjoy nature fully.

  13. Everyone looks like they are having a good time riding the horses!! Great pictures! It won’t be long before you can ride again! So sorry to read about your having to have back surgery! Ugh!:(

Those are beautiful horses! It looks cold out there! I know you’ve been riding ever since you were very young! It must be a fun and relaxing activity! Take care! Get lots of rest! Heal quickly!:)

  14. Oh please woman, you are NOT falling apart! Actually, pretty far from it! 🙂

  15. Love the Katharine Hepburn quote 🙂

  16. I ride an iron horse at 57, and have friends at 82 that go cross country on their Harley’s. I hope I will be doing the same. And I’m sure you will be on a stallion many years from now Jane! Hope your healing is quick.

Have you been to the cave near Espanola that an artist carved for many years? My mother and I stumbled upon it in the 90’s. Amazing cave. Email me if you would like directions.

  17. I don’t live far from your NM ranch and feel that I’m one of the luckiest people in the world to be able to live in such a beautiful place.

  18. Beautiful photos, Jane. Didn’t know about your back surgery – I had outpatient back surgery over Thanksgiving but it’s not going to slow me down! Keep living life to the fullest like you’re doing and you’ll be fine. I’ll follow your lead!

  19. That ranch looks like a great place to paint, as soon as my eye operation happend , I want ot take a trip up into that area for painting.

  20. More outstanding photos of your Thanksgiving — looks really cozy. Do you spend Christmas there too? I would!

Hope your back is better soon; I’m sure it will be. You continute to be an inspiration for me (and others) as far as your passion of living, and the strength of your convictions that shows in your dedication to causes that you hold dear.

And I LOVE that bowl with the skeletons!!! Do you know where they bought it??

    Take care

  21. Hello Miss Fonda, Thank you for posting your pics and also thank you for posting my story back on aug 21,09 (Last week at the ranch). It was rather lengthy and I honestly did not think you would post it. You are a sweetheart. I will be there to visit my mother from Dec 19th thru Dec 26th. I can’t wait, and seeing your pics gets me excited. I think my wife and I will be staying at “La Fonda” in old town Santa Fe. No Pun intended. I love it there during the holidays. The last x-mas I spent there was about 10 years ago. My wife just asked me “What are you doing” and I said “Writing to my friend Jane Fonda. She said “Yeah Right”. 😉 Miss Fonda I hope you and your family are well and have a nice x-mas. If my wife and I run into you on Canyon Road please say hi and pretend like you know me. Have a nice holiday and post more pics. Thanks Leonard Quintana

  22. I definitely have to get to NM one day.

  23. Great pictures, Jane! BTW, I saw your son in a movie not long ago (“Lake City,” I think was the title). He is a very handsome young man, and very talented (just like his mom)!

  24. Hepburn sure had a way with a line. I am sure that you will follow in her grand footsteps and those of Ingrid, Audrey, Greer, Maureen and co….as we would say down under….and this is the highest Aussie compliment that you will get….you are a bloody legend.

  25. I love that quote of Kate’s! How I wish for snow here in Ohio!

Oh, about the movie idea, I have a little more for you. Rather than the usual Hallmark movie of older person saves younger person, I was thinking more along the lines that their lives and them meeting come at the least opportunity for them and both take that out on each other to the point where a love affair begins. I’m not thinking “troubled youth” as anyone below the legal limit, but like a twentysomething.

  26. Dear Jane,
Keep it into Nature! Thats the way to overcome most of our physical and spiritual dificulties, as I see it in my life.
    Best
