ONE MORE WEEK

It’s hard for me to wrap my heart around the fact that one week from today is our last show. I am girding my emotional loins.

My friend, Cindy Horn, came tonight. She was beyond moved. We stood backstage and cried together for awhile. I knew it would hit her deeply. It was the most fantastic audience tonight. OMG. It felt as if they knew we were almost done and so they were enveloping us in attentive, intelligent love.

Tomorrow is the Drama League Luncheon and I am co-chairing. Don’t quite know what to expect except that it’s a long event. I am looking forward to it because I think my fellow actors from various other plays will be there and I always enjoy that. “Always!” That makes it sound like I’m used to these things. I’m not. I still get “star struck”–“talent struck” would be a more accurate way to put it.

Anyway, I’m tired. A lot of running around today getting last minute things done. Hence, this is a short blog.

See you next time.

  1. I’m happy to hear that you still get starstruck! Quite right, should be talent struck. It makes me feel better after meeting you here in Australia and I was all tongue tied and loopy. I also met Jane Powell once in a lift (elevator) in Sydney and she was shocked that “someone of my age” knew who she was….I’m just a movie geek. I had nowhere to escape in a lift and I think that I got out on the wrong floor! Have fun.

  2. Hello Jane – it’s truly been a privilege to read your blog daily and to get a glimpse into the life of a Broadway play and the daily life you have. Such an active life you lead and it’s no wonder you have so many friends and supporters who love and adore you and your work. As a Canadian I was pleased to read of your trips to Toronto (where my daughter is attending U of T Law School) and to Montreal. Thank you again for sharing your life with us all of these weeks. Much love – Colleen

  3. Hi Jane: Keep the spirit. It’s sad when something one loves ends, but that proverbial window is opening brightly as I send this.

    With regard,
    Claudia

  4. Awwww, Jane. You look so very sad in that photo. I know it’s upsetting that the show is over in a week, but just think about how perfectly marvelous this run has been. I bet you all will perform this play again (somewhere). It really resonates with so many people, and I just can’t imagine next week is really the finality of it.

    All my best,
    Amanda

  5. I finally have the opportunity to see the play – the last week!! I am just getting over being sick, but HAVE to travel to NY to see it. I have a deep conection to your beliefs, writing and have followed all of your superb acting. See you at tomorrow’s matinee!!

  6. Who wouldn’t be “talent struck” in the company you keep – yourself included!

But that’s the attitude and openness I feel you bring to everyone and everything in your life – from sensing the “attentive, intelligent love” of your audience to the wonderful “Backstage” blog a few days ago to the give and take you engage in with those responding to your blog.

Jane, you are inspiring. Thanks so much.

  7. I saw 33 Variations at this week’s matinee. It was awesome. Wish I could have met you and perhaps some of your awesome cast. Good luck at the Tonys.

I chose to come into NY from Seattle this week so I could see you before you closed. Do you think you might take this show on the road? I’d love to see this cast again.

    Bravo!

  8. i would have thought it boring to do the same show day after day, but actually you get into it as a routine, as something you do every day, and that is interesting…maybe like any skilled or artistic profession…so then there would be a letdown when it is over, an alienation from the product you have created and miss the family of actors and staff, as it must be performed each day to stay alive and improvise, improve and interact with each other and the audience….so then you might have a desire to do another play…this is the way art can be addictive..

  9. Ms Fonda- Jane-
I share your distress in having only one week left. We who anticipate each new entry to your blog will be lost without your words! And what exquisite words you speak- about your life, your 33 Variations role, your friends, your family, your passions- especially your passions for helping others. We all need to hear your words and to be reminded of the joy of relationships, the importance of doing something in your life you love, the responsibility of doing for those in need. Do not keep silent after this play ends. You have brought great joy to me with each new entry. Thank you!

  10. I hope that this play shows up somewhere else in the world. I can’t believe its almost over either. It was more than a success though. You should be proud. =)

  11. Hi Jane,
I am one of the laggers that will finally get to see this play on May 20th! I’ve been patiently waiting and happily reading the updates to your blog. To finally see this work myself is exciting!

It’s wonderful to read of the thought and hard work goes into these performances, and you have taken us behind the curtain to see how brave all of you are to speak up (and sing out) on that stage. Thank you for that experience.

I’ll be grinning in my seat before the show, wondering if you are really behind the set with opera glasses watching US as we come into the venue. I’ll be listening for the bells outside the theatre before the show begins–thank you for all these details!

I got to see your father perform in Clarence Darrow in Philadelphia, PA back around 1974/75 or so while I was still a student in school. It was so cool to see you and your father’s portraits in the photos you posted the other night. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself in your blog, in your books and for having the guts to put yourself out there on film and stage as well.

I can’t wait for 2PM on May 20th! Stay strong! Knock us out! We are so happy to be coming!

THANK YOU for everything–it’s great to be able to write that directly to you!

  12. It’s been so wonderful you’ve experienced this play!!!! I know it will be bittersweet for you this last week!! Have fun!! You’ll have so many great memories!
