SHELLBACK

I haven’t had any access for two days so I won’t be giving any blow by blow but a general report on what’s happening here in the Galapagos.

We are now, as of yesterday, all Shellbacks, meaning we have crossed the equator in a boat while awake. Ever since then my knee has hurt less. Go figure! We are having a blast. Snorkeling with giant sea turtles, penguins, sea lions, marine iguanas and handsome naturalists.

We have walked on the most pristine land in the world and seen giant land tortoises, yellow/orange land iguanas, seen thousands of black marine iguanas, so thick that they are easily mistaken for lava rocks and stepped on. Sea lions are the best to watch playing together. I swear they like to pose and flirt with us. We saw Galapagos fur seals, blowfish, and amazing flora and fauna.

There are 43 of us in this group which is a fundraising trip for G-CAPP and we are all getting along fabulously. It would be even better, though, if I could bring the cast of “33 Variations” along with us–and Moises and David….and Jeff and Eric and MIchael and Heidi. (ok, so I made some new friends)

Today, May 28th, is my grandson Malcolm’s 10 birthday and tonight we will have cake and a dance.

I am sending lots of photos to go with this blog because I may not get access again for awhile.

  5. Jane, wonderful pictures and everything looks and sounds fantastic. I wonder if the magnetic fields have anything to do with your knee feeling better.

Question-why are there penguins in a warm area? Are they a special kind of penguin?

  8. You will be able to say that I am reiterative, and it is true, but, what photos!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I saw your photo with the group, with the cap of 33 variations and the arm about high place I thought: will it be an omen of what will spend(pass) 7? It(he,she) sensitized very much the sadness of the look of this wolf of sea. Thank you for sharing this experience.
    From Uruguay with love
