COLONIAL QUITO IN ECUADOR

We’re in the Andes at an altitude of 9000 ft, at the foot of an active volcano. We have several hours before our plane leaves for Atlanta and, travel weary though we are, we’re taking advantage of this layover to take a tour of the colonial parts of the city which was the first city that U.N.E.S.C.O. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1978. It is beautiful, colorful and unique. I’d be happy to return some day with more time to spend.

It’s a 6 hour flight to Atlanta and we get in at 5:30am. Yikes! Carole will pick Tulea up at ManyPaws (her sitters) and I will be reunited with her when I awake–because I intend to take a nap when I get home so I’ll be in my right mind for unpacking and repacking and going to my office -first time since the beginning of January.

See you next time.

  1. Thanks for sharing all the great photos.

  2. Jane, thanks for being our eyes in Galapagos. Quito seems to be a picturesque city. I am useful to recommend to her a city of my country, also declared historical patrimony of the humanity for the UNESCO, Colonia del Sacaramento. It she goes to very pretty being it she was meeting again with Tulea after these days of separation. I remember as soon as I returned of a trip and my dog gave to me turned the “face” for having left it. From Uruguay with love.

  3. The trip sounds amazing. Have great flight back here to the ATL. It’s hot+dry 🙁

  4. You have no idea how much it kills me that your layover was in quito and not here in guayaquil..
But.. Im form guayaquil and i have to admit that quito has much more to offer (historic wise) so i’m glad to got to see some of it. though guayaquil has lots to offer too!

be sure to comeback.. i’m so happy you leave with good memories of this country many people overlook

  5. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful vacation with us. The pictures were BEAUTIFUL. Just amazing! I enjoyed them a lot. Glad you had fun.

  6. Some of your Quito photos remind of areas to the north of downtown Los Angeles, especially in the way the arid-appearing hills hover around the pastel-colored city below.

I do admire your energy and stamina and am glad you had a fulfilling vacation. Thanks for sharing your very illuminating thoughts and wonderful photos.

  7. Thanks for sharing – I have looked forward to reading your adventures daily – the photos were awesome!!!
    Love to all

  8. At least you get to have some fun while you’re waiting to board your plane. A tour sounds like a lovely way to “kill some time” while you are waiting.

Hope you get plenty of rest! I’m sure Tulea will be thrilled to see you:)

    Best,
    Amanda

  12. Thank you so much for sharing your trip. I would have loved to have been with you. Also, the picture of you at the end of your blog The Last Day (May 30) is such a beautiful picture of you. I would get it framed if I were you. It shows me such strength, beauty and wisdom. I am honored to be able to read your words and see your photos. Thank you for all you do.

  13. After reading your trip notes, I definitely will put the Galapagos on my list of places to see. Imagine you are happy to be back home though and am sending you best wishes for a speedy recovery on your knee surgery as I’m traveling in mid-June — nothing as exotic as the Galapagos this trip. A family reunion to the Long Beach Peninsula of Washington state for 10 days. Definitely looking forward to the time off from all of my writing assignments. Deb

  14. Thanks for taking picture of places I would love to see.

  15. I hate to be overly persistent, but, have you seriously thought of photography as a side hobby? Your photos of Colonial Quito should be published. Speaking of, Barbra Streisand is publishing an architecture book later this year about her homes, how great if you did the same thing! Both would look great on my coffee table!

  16. Dear Ms. Fonda,

I only recently discovered your personal blog–although I’ve been a fervent admirer of your published auto-bio.

May I please say, unrelated to anything in this post, that your honesty and lack of vanity on this blog is fully inspirational. I’ve always been infatuated with your voice–it really IS one of the most unique voices in recent American film history, and so gorgeously attractive to someone like me, who is an ESL speaker–and slowly worked my way onto appreciating your acting work.. At this point, I’m a real fan. Applauds and (virtual) roses bouquets for being open, vulnerable and accessible and yet maintaining a good measure of grace and class. You are one hell of a woman in my book, Ms. Fonda.

  17. Wow. I can’t believe I’m on JANE FONDA’S website. I just finished reading your book and I was so impressed by your honestly and intelligence. I am 17 and even at my age I am in awe of you and your courage. GO YOU MISS FONDA.

PS. i love your movies too!!

  18. Great photo’s. Thanks for sharing them.
