THE NEWSROOM

NEWSROOM!!!!

Okay, word is out so I can talk about this and show the trailer. I am sooooo beyond excited. Working on an Aaron Sorkin project for HBO with actors like these, OMG! And the part is so much fun. I can’t give too much away but think, if you can, of a combo of Ted Turner and Rupert Murdock, but a woman-me. Jeff Daniels is one of the leads and a friend of mine. I think he is a brilliant actor…subtle, deep, nuanced, who can be funny and serious and moving. He took me aside the day of the table read (the first time all the actors, director, producers and writers sit around a huge table and read through the entire episode-I first appear at the end of the 3rd episode) and he gave me great advice. What a gift!  My scene had 4 pages of speech. I loved it so much, being able to sink my teeth into meaty stuff like that. It’s funny, cause if I did get a word or a comma wrong and then got corrected I could feel the difference immediately. Every little detail made a true difference.

I was allowed to see the pilot so that I could catch the vibe and understand the context into which I was stepping. All I can say is WOW! This series is going to knock your socks off. I had to stand up and cheer. Can’t say more.

Enjoy the Trailer! THE NEWSROOM Premiers SUNDAY JUNE 24th on HBO!  Don’t worry I’ll remind you all again.

  1. Hey there Miss Jane Fonda! I did not know you wrote a blog until I fell into your world just now.

I hope the Newsroom program travels across the Pacific to us in Queensland Australia sometime.

Your New Mexio New Garden post seems closed to comments now so just wanted to say that we use hooped gardens for veg in Queensland too. Only not to keep frost away – rather to moderate the effect of the subtropical sun and the wild brush turkeys who scratch our gardens to pieces! 🙂 But as you say, a wild bird’s gotta eat.

Love your hobbit inspired window. We have little vignettes from every room here on our small acreage – but unlike New Mexico which looks pleasantly dry, we have a jungley backyard with grass ten feet high if you don’t mow regularly.

I have been blogging for 5 years, firstly on art and now on local food – it’s my mission to influence the people of our region to buy from smaller local operators in order to keep farms and fishermen in our beautiful area viable. Amazingly I have now been asked to place my content into a widely circulated Queensland women’s magazine, so now have a wider forum to showcase the work of all our wonderful local food makers.

I wonder how your veg garden is coming along?

I am about to build one this year – if you want to see a hooped veg garden in the tropics with its inherent challenges please feel free to visit http://www.sunshinecoastfood.com/yum/ some time over the next few months.

I am a big fan, from “The China Syndrome” on…first film of yours I saw at the movies, when I was a youngster.

But more so, you have influenced my approach to life in that I have spent my adulthood with at least one toe poked into trying to change for the better what I see around me. My mother did not do that. But you did that. And for a little girl growing up in the 70s to see your activism was a positive influence, even from so many tens of thousands of kilometres away.

    Thank you for that.

    Have a wonderful week.

    Sincerely

    Kylie Huckstepp

  2. F**k! This will make me break down and finally get HBO!
    XO
    Love Edward

    • you betcha. It’ll be well worth it, in my humble opinion.

  3. “He’s gonna tone it down or I’m gonna fire him.” 😀

I watched the trailer like twenty times to hear this line. I’m so excited to see you. I hope we’re going to see you more on the screen in the future. Is it going to be more episodes after all or will you be only in the Pilot? I don’t even know what to wish. 🙂

For me the cast and Aaron Sorkin means great fun so I’m in. 😀 And with you, I’ll be obsessed I’m sure. 😀

  4. Oh and I forgot to wish you a blessed Easter. Have a nice weekend! 🙂

  5. Jane: I’ve been waiting for years for you to do a Television show. I watched the trailer and it looks very promising, and we do know each other?
    George

    • wow, maybe. My maternal aunt was Bowers. My Grandmother was Sophie Bowers. Hmmm

  6. Dear Jane,

congratulations, this is wonderful news, I can’t wait to see you on TV and on the big screen also!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you. Your books My Life So Far and Prime Time have been a source of inspiration (and very useful information) for me in difficult times of my life. I admire your honesty and your wisdom, you are an amazing woman and role model.

    Best,
    Roberta

  7. Congrats, Jane! Looks gr8. Jeff Daniels; perfect choice. Perfect excuse 2get HBO, again. And, btw …still think ur beautiful — inside & out! (in a boys dream)

  8. Dear Jane: Not only am I a devotee of your’s, and appreciate YOU, but Jeff Daniels and Mr. Sam Waterston are amazing. Thank you for the heads up. I thank God for your book “My Life So Far” and your special on Oprah Winfrey’s network. Smiles and many hugs! (p.s. I have your latest exercise CD.)

  9. Dear Jane,

First of all, let me say I am a huge fan of yours! I am so glad that I found your home page and signed up to be able to talk to you. I need to let you know a little about me….I am 45 yrs old and I suffered a stroke 3 yrs ago. It affected my right side of my body and left it very weak. I can not work anymore due to the stroke so since I am not so active anymore, I have put on quite a bit of weight. I can not do a heavy workout program so, which one of your DVDs do you recommend? You are so talented and smart so I know I can trust your word and judgement.

    All the best to you,
    Melinda

    • Melinda, truthfully, probably the best of my new “Prime Time” DVDs is the one I just finished that won’t be outtill next fall. It is yoga and pilates-based and very easy and good.

      • Dear Jane,

Thank you so very much for taking the time to answer me back. It was truly an honor to hear from you. I really do appreciate the advice and I will be looking forward to the new DVDs. I struggle everyday to get better and with time, I am. I just want to be and feel normal. I used to be so active and able to do alot and now that I cant, I have put on some weight. Thank you so very much for being a caring person and for taking the time to listen. Cant wait for the DVDs!!!!

        Take Care…….

  10. Hello Jane,
Great to hear about your new project. I love to watch good actors exercise their craft, especially the non-verbal aspect of things (at which you excel), and I know from seeing many of them work before that the people in your ensemble will bring a lot to the project. Jeff Daniels is terrific. Many people just remember him from DUMB AND DUMBER, in which he was really good, but since then I’ve seen him in many other things (cinema and theater) and grown to admire his work immensely. You’re right — he can be quite versatile…funny, moving, and sometimes terrifying. I’ll look forward to seeing the completed work.

On a side note, I’ve been reading your book, PRIME TIME, and came across the following in the section on food: “By the way, those of us over fifty don’t need to worry too much about cholesterol, it doesn’t carry as much risk for us as it does for younger people.” If you find a free moment, could you possibly let me know the source(s) for that information? I’d like to follow up with a little research on that welcome bit of news. By the way, the book is a great resource and I’m enjoying it a lot. The fact that you’ve been willing to be somewhat candid in your commentary is welcome — even encouraging.

    Keep up the good work!

    Best wishes,

    Robert

    • Gosh Robert, all my resouce books are in New Mexico and I won’t be there till August. I think that fact about cholesterol being less of a problem in “Aging Well.” Did I not give a footnote?

  11. I am a 54 year old and I need to lose 100 lbs. I have not exercised in a while. What DVD do you suggest I start out with and any other suggestions such as foods diet you have as I begin this new journey in my life. Have not been successful in some diets…I lose then get off them and gain back plus more. HELP!
