HARD DRIVE CRASH! YUCK!

My hard drive gave out. Don’t know why so don’t ask. Goblins of cyber space. But a tech genius recommended by Carrie Fisher saved my “stuff.”!! I mean, think about it: I had not saved with backup any part of my book for 3 months!! So that’s why I haven’t been blogging till this morning. I am happy to say, I am about to head to my ranch for 3 dys. My son and daughter-in-law are there so that’ll be fun and I am participating in a Upaya Zen center retreat about Wisdom and Aging so I’ll only be at my ranch part time. But part time is better than nada.

So that’s all for now. I miss my pals from “Peace Love and Misunderstanding. “ And my long gray hair.

See you next time.

  1. You could always do the long gray hair. Double dare ya.

  2. Glad to see you are Ok, we were kind of worried here in the hudson valley!! Jacob and I feel blessed we were hable to work on this movie with you, your energy is inspirational for all of us. Hope our path cross again.
    With love.

  3. Mercury is retrograde, Jane. Technical things are bound to go wrong. Your most recent character would understand, I’m sure. 🙂

Three times a year the planet of communication, expression and telecommunication seems to head backward in the skies… and that equals crossed wires of all descriptions for us mere mortals down here.

Mercury retrograde ends on September 12th.

  4. Jane, if you are using a Mac (I hope) you can have a automatic backup called Time Machine back up your master every hour automatically so you won’t loose any data. Not sure if it works on a PC though.

  5. That was scary about your hard drive! Yikes! So glad you were able to save your things.. especially what you’ve been writing for your book the last three months! I always feel happy for you when you are going to your ranch! It’s such a haven for you! Your time at the Upaya Zen Center always sounds so interesting! Have fun! Relax! Hope you can share some things you learn at the center with us!

  6. life is a hard drive Jane,
Been a strange one , it was a “I just ran into a Buddest Monk kind of a day”. There is a Buddhist monastery that once was a Roman Catholic convent. With Craftsman Bungalows, neighborhood in Long Beach, California. I often run in to Monks, walking about, there seems to be a understand about me, that I wonder about at time. Monks stop and look at me and turn about , and ask question and we talk and exchange a moment in time, I say meditations and they say yes,the best, I say Thomas Merton has some good ideas on this subject.
I empty the bottle of life and it holds nothing that was not there already.
    with love Jane

  7. I learned my lesson the last time my hard drive crashed and researched online backup options. I decided that Carbonite is the way to go for backups. I have mine set so that it backs up every night while I sleep and it only costs $54.95 a year. I haven’t had to restore anything yet but my husband did several months ago. And, yes, he was writing a 1000 page book so Carbonite saved him.

I look forward to your new film and have loved your long, curly, gray hair. Definitely beautiful on you.

  8. It’s a glorious experience to share your movie making experiences. Loved being in France with you and also your roof photographs. And now we’re pumped up to revisit Woodstock when the recently completed film is released. Will we next be experiencing the reprisal of your Broadway play in California? I’ve been your fan forever and ever (amen) and this is the kind of fanship than I can relate to. I’m an ESL teacher who makes up words but can’t do it anywhere near work because it confuses the students to be exposed to unofficial words. Now I shared some of my work with you.

Keep going, you Energizer Bunny, we will keep up with you. Your movie will be the first French movie in French I’ve seen since “La Vie.” I want them to make the sequel which will depict the missing part of Piaf’s story-her involvement in the French Resistance. Do you have any pull to get it made? You can select the actress to play Josephine Baker.

  9. Always do backups^^
I recomment you to buy an extern hard-drive so your backups are save.

    Greets 😀

  10. Dear jane~SO SORRY! Abt your hard drive crash! Bummer! But thank heavens you were saved~esp your book. Caulk it up to this mischievous retro mercury!! When I worked @ MIT, our i/t person’s mantra was BACK UP! Lesson stuck. Question:do you do anything “spiritual” – for lack of a better word – to “internally” say “goodbye” to the character you have created and shared within yourself ~ like grace whom you seem to be very fond of and got very close to? Goodbyes are sad/glad; you’ve had to many w filming back-to-back. I’m glad you’ll have santa fe and your horses and family to restore. And tulea can run like the wind. Love & peace moon&ladyb

  11. Are you going to the Upaya Zen Center in Santa Fe?…That is going to be a great retreat!…So happy to hear that you are interested on the Dharma!
How do you do with all that “sitting”?….I’m asking because we are about the same age and, while I’m in great shape, I have difficulty “sitting” on a zafu for several hours…without getting up all sore…specially on the hips.

Be well and enjoy the retreat!.

  12. As a university teacher, the threat of losing my computer files is ever-present, so I empathize with your latest hard-drive crash. I recently experienced the same. What I’d suggest is signing up for an online back-up system that automatically saves your files at least once a day. I chose one from McAfee and it costs about $50 a year, but there are any number of companies that you can choose from. With this service, your files are automatically backed up, saved and completely retrievable. It’s like having a safe or vault off-site from your computer.

Hope you have a lovely visit with your son and daughter-in-law, and thank you for such an informative, entertaining and inspiring blog and website.

  13. I’m glad your hard drive works again. Love your blog! Greetings from Germany.

  14. You have packed so much living in this brief post. I love it! What’s that about long gray hair? Did we miss something? Happy holidays and thanks for keeping us up to date . . .

  15. Loved the long grey hair, you have always been beautiful no matter what your look of the moment, but this was truly stunning and glorified and validated long and grey as another option for those of us who want to feel beautiful in our natural state. And so sensual, what a great wig, it made one want to run one’s fingers through it…

I am 54 now. Grey is coming into my never dyed brown hair, and off and on I wonder whether I should color it (my mother never colored hers and kept it long but always wore it up – and she was a beautiful woman). Still on the fence, but seeing your pictures definitely made me lean towards keeping it natural…

Am in New Jersey (I grew up in France and was there during your Vadim years) and planned to drive up while you were in Woodstock to browse but never made it…

Have always been fascinated by you, ever since I saw you in Cat Ballou: I thought you were the most beautiful female my eyes had ever laid eyes on. The earnestness and goodness of your persona has always given you a special aura too. You are a woman of many gifts and assets, I hope that you are fullfilled and happy, though life is never simple for any of us…

Thank you for all the sharing you do on your blog, and for standing up for all of your beliefs.

    Your fan,
    Katherine
