L’OREAL PARIS

I spoke briefly at a luncheon at the L’Oreal Paris headquarters in Clichy, a suburb of Paris. For four days, the directors of L’Oreal Paris from around the world have come together to meet and strategize about different aspects of the business. There must have been more than 150 countries represented. It was impressive. For the past 4 years I have been the L’Oreal Paris brand ambassador worldwide (except the U.S.) for +65 women. I’ve been told my brands are their best sellers. June 4th was L’Oreal’s 100th birthday so this was a sort of party and I was the surprise guest.

I am proud to work with L’Oreal Paris, a company that recently won the award for leadership in ethics. I sat next to Jean-Paul Agon, the President of the parent company of which L’Oreal Paris is a division who confirmed what I had already been told: They do no testing on animals and their laboratories are in the forefront of developing artificial skin on which to test products.

I love the company also because they chose me not in spite of my age but because of my age. They are committed to the idea that beauty is not simply in the young and model-perfect but in all people regardless of ethnicity or age.

Last night I had dinner with Jean Pierre Meyers and Francoise Meyers Bettencourt, the daughter of the owner of L’Oreal’s parent company. Youcef Nabi was also there. She was director of L’Oreal worldwide when I began working with them and is now president of Lancome worldwide which is the luxury brand of L’Oreal. We are good friends.

Tomorrow we begin three days of filming a commercial for skin care products in an apartment in Paris. I always have to do each shot in French, then in English and then a separate one for the United Kingdom which has special rules about what can be said. I enjoy the challenge. I must say, I use the products on a regular basis and have for 4 years. They are called AGE RE-PERFECT PRO CALCIUM and there is one cream for daytime and one for the night. I tend to have dry skin and it’s gotten more so with age, so these creams have really helped. I know some of you don’t give a fuzzy rat’s ass about all this, but I’ve had many questions from, blog friends about my skin care.

The director of the commercial and the stylist are about to arrive to discuss tomorrow’s shoot and have me try on the clothes. I will send photos of he shoot tomorrow. So…

See you next time

  1. yippie, we get to see how the shoot goes. Thanks for the honest comments on faith in “Matters that Move Me” section.

Odd question. How many times did your father portray the President of the United States on film? I recently saw the one Gore Vidal wrote and loved it.

  2. Hmmm..I swear I can remember you speaking in French in a movie, but I can’t recall which one. Anyone out there have an idea what it could be?

  3. “fuzzy rat’s ass” – it’s a classic if I do say so myself. Just wondering why you are not the ambassador for the US?

  4. Oh Jane now I know we are kindred spirits I have been a fan all your career! I am 50 , live in Atlanta and so enjoy your twitter posts and blog- and I do give a rat’s ass about my skin!
Rock on Jane you look fantastic !

  5. This is wonderful! How awesome is it that L’Oreal is NOT testing on animals?!? Also…way to go on their products and promoting them for women 65+. And who else could be a better representative than you, Jane? Just gorgeous!

  6. Thanks so much, Jane, for inquiring of L’Oreal’s top executives about their product testing practices. As I wrote you yesterday, I have not felt I could buy L’Oreal products since they previously lifted their ban against animal testing, so will be happy to try their highly reputed skincare lines once I check in with my Caring Consumer guide. Thanks again for being so responsive.
Have a grand time on your shoot this weekend.

  7. It says a lot about our culture in the U.S. that there is no L’Oreal ambassador here for the over 65 woman. You always look radiant in your pictures and personal appearances on TV. As an over 65 woman myself, I am glad to hear what products you use to get that healthy-looking skin. Your blog entries are incredibly interesting to follow and I have been doing so since seeing you on The View. I also enjoyed very much hearing about your faith as a Christian.

  8. Jane, you are a hoot…”a fuzzy rat’s ass”…lol….and thanks so much for sharing your spirituality…you have expressed pretty much where i am in my life….thanks.

I have a question…..how does someone become an assistant for someone such as yourself-or someone like you? Is there a specific job category for that?

    Thanks,
    Darlene

  9. I don’t wear make-up, but if I did, I would probably go with L’Oreal or Lancome, not just because they do no testing on animals, but because they are all-inclusive with women of varying ages. I’m 24 and even I become extremely annoyed when there’s too much focus on young model types. So many companies forget that twenty-somethings aren’t the only people purchasing products out there.

I can’t wait to see the various commercials. What are the special rules about what can be said in the UK commercials?

Great to read you are enjoying your time abroad!

    All my best,
    Amanda

  10. Jane,

It is so refreshing to hear of a company such as L’Oreal Paris whom are committed to excellence, yet refuse follow the crowd. No wonder they have excelled for 100 years! No animal testing is a must, so the artificial skin development is to be commended.
How many brands of yours are out there besides the one mentioned? They seem to be working great for you. Especially as a performer in and out of make-up all the time.
Look forward to seeing tomorrow’s photo’s.
    Keep Enjoying Paris

  11. I love where your going with this , very interesting to me.
Thanks Jane , your opening up a new view of what is Jane all about. I like what Jane has to say, your are doing a wonderful job of expression. Après la pluie, le beau temps, the Tony’s are over and now time to move on to a sunny place in life.

  12. After searching the Internet I find that the Age Re Perfect Pro Calcium products you use are not available in the U. S. Will they be?

  13. Dear Jane!

What special “rules” about what can be said in British commercials?

I am very curious, burning to know. Love your blog.

  14. Your blogs always learn something. I did not know that Lancome was the luxury brand of L’Oreal, for example. L’Oreal use for many years and I feel more comfortable knowing that no animal experiments. From Uruguay with love

  15. Thanks for the tip. I’ve been looking for new products to use. One note though – I think there may be a typo on L’Oreal website re: Coming Home. It seems like it was 1978 rather than 1987. Seems like I remember seeing that movie with my ex-husband and I’m pretty sure we didn’t go to the movies together in 1987.

  16. Diane Keaton does it for the US right? Anyway, thats cool having to do it in French also. Have fun!

  17. Now that I am nearly 43, I care more about skin care products than make up. I switch out different products and also go without a lot of the time to let my skin breathe.(or maybe cuz I am lazy.)

When I was in my 20’s I absolutely adored Lancome products, but I just don’t wear makeup as much as I used to!

  18. ps…maybe I will go browse the Lancome counter for old times sake.

  19. Howlo again, Ms Fonda. You look so lovely in the photo.

It’s wonderful that L’Oreal Paris does not do testing on animals!

  20. Rats don’t have much of an ass, it more like the long tail and feet you feel as they walk on you. Rats are very nice animals in that they do not bite, unless you case them pain, e.g., squeeze too hard. You can hold them up to 10 or 15 minutes at a time without fear of getting wet. They can also tell the difference between food and your finger. The only downside is their short life expectancy, about 3 years. I think they have evolved with people and are part of us. We also evolved from rat like creatures way back when.

  21. Jane..Lovely day in the uk. your so near..makes me feel gd. My wife uses the product also. you know your worth it..Roy..

  22. My Paris story: My 33 yr old daughter and I were in Paris and decided to go to the oldest cabaret in Paris, Lapin Agile. Armed with a credit card and a few Euros’ we took a cab to the place where Picasso hung out. The gentleman at the door informed us they do not take credit cards! We did not have enough money so we pleaded with the man to take some U.S cash. He did and we entered what seemed like the 19th century! It ended at midnight and we did not have enough cash for a cab so we had to walk 1 1/2 hours through little scary streets but it was the best time! Ahhhh,,,,Paris

  23. The UK having special rules about what can be said in a commercial? Who knew? We’rel extremely curious. Do tell. BTW, you looked (which you always do, come to think of it) wealthy and glamourous at the Tonys. Dynamite!

I’d love to know how you picked up your style, who influenced you, where you get your clothes, etc. Irrelevant stuff that women are not supposed to focus on but nevertheless floats thru our brains whenever we spy an attractive female. I think that’s built into our genes; you probably think it’s learned.

  24. I love L´Oreal and Lancome products and always use them. The facial creams are really good. They’re my favorites.
You, Jane, are a perfect model to follow in many things and this is another one. The L´Oreal people is very smart in choosing you as their ambassador worldwide.
Hope to see you soon in the new commercials. Good luck and enjoy the always wonderful Paris!

  25. I am glad to see that you are enjoying yourself in the City Of Love- Paris.

  26. Hi Jane ~ Beauty IS skin deep & yours goes clean through to your soul. Do you love being back in Paris?

  27. They are good facts to know. I watched Coming Home again last night, such a great movie and such great performances from you and Jon and Bruce and Robert Carradine. I can’t believe that it wasn’t in the 1001 movies that you should see before you die. Only one of yours is in there – Klute. Authors should have their heads read. They have Clueless in there but not Coming Home!

  28. Hi Jane ur a beautiful women and u are the perfact, perfact L’Oreal ambassador, i love the L’Oreal facial products they are absolutly the best. I’m stil very young nd id lyk 2see myslf as a J’Oreal ambassador one day

  29. Jane, always a pleasure to read your blog!

    Re Sandra’s comment:
People in the U.S. can get the cream by going onto http://www.lorealparisusa.com. You can then go onto the “where to buy” link where it’ll tell you where your nearest stockist is. It’s the same product as the EU only Diane Keaton is the brand ambassador.

Wish I could speak French…I gave up in 1st yr college-thought it was too much hassle! I’m a bit sorry now though so good for you Jane for keeping it up! 🙂

  30. hi jane say hello to yocef……….it is my one of my mate…….lol

  31. “…Youcef Nabi was also there. She was director of L’Oreal worldwide when I began working with them and is now president of Lancome worldwide which is the luxury brand of L’Oreal…”
