THE OSCARS

I was doing my second show during the Oscars, but Richard sat in my dressing room and watched there. I was able to catch a glimpse whenever I came in for a scene/wardrobe change. I thought Anne Hathaway did a wonderful job. What a talent! And she sings too. Wow! There were no surprises, really, when it came to the winners. I got into a Badgley Mischka navy blue gown with great Vhernier jewelry and Matthew Shields came to fix my hair which gets all flat from being under a wig for 3 hours ( 8 hours yesterday as we did 2 shows) and off we went to the Vanity Fair Party and then Madonna and Demi Moore’s party. Had a lot of fun and spent time with people I like and admire..Anne Hathaway, Quentin Tarantino, Jane Lynch, Reese Witherspoon (who I‘ve wanted to meet for ages!) and many others. My brother Peter was there as were Troy and Simone.

Got to have a nice reunion with Rob Lowe at the second party. Hadn’t seen him in almost 30 years! We worked together on some important environmental campaigns back in the 80s. I stayed up way too late, though and have lost my voice. Nonetheless, I am about to go to a function in Malibu on behalf of the Centre Theatre Group where Artistic director, Michael Ritchie and I will have a “dialogue.” Then straight home to bed with lots of tea and honey. If it’s not better tomorrow, I’ll probably have to have a cortisone shot in my butt which is how I got over the same thing 2 years ago on Broadway.

  1. Never been to the Oscars but my friend John “JR” Robinson was the drummer. JR is the best; worked with Richard often.
I miss the real comedians as host. I loved Bob Hope as a kid and Billy Crystal as an adult.

PS Richard was my childhood idol going back to 1955.

  2. I will be at the play tomorrow night Jane!
I’m a long time blog reader and so thrilled to be able to see you perform this play after reading about it for so long!!!
praying for your voice to be strong and healed!!

  3. Hello Jane,

Yes, was a interesting Oscar’s me thinks.
I’m sure that many like and admire you as well, and must have been some good after Oscar parties this year.
I did have concerns over some comments about Kirt Douglas and his age and speech. Who needs a script anyway when you’ve got the spotlight? I found most people online was Kirt Douglas. Stories behind the hottest topics on Twitter, and most of all, he gained fans in tweeps. Having written my script with you in mind, I meet Kirt Douglas last year and wrote a part for a older man, with him in mind. I do see a number of older actor up and about and wanting a good role to play and able to work. A lot of factor in the development of a script that can support a group of diverse people and still have action and maintain a sunject matter of interest. I hope your speech returns soon.

    With love and care

  4. I’ve always loved Anne Hathaway so I was excited to see her at the Oscars. It was cool when she sung because not a lot of people knew she could sing unless they saw her in Ella Enchanted.

  5. You look fantastic Jane! As for the Oscars, it is my favorite show of the year! I run out to see all of the movies nominated in many of the categories. I love the magic of it all! Plus I love the classy Hollywood part that often comes out of it. I can only imagine what it is like to see all of those celebrities all in one place, especially at the After Oscar parties. It’s funny that you were excited to meet/see some of these celebrities. I have a feeling they were even more excited to meet/see you!
