Prime Time

That is the title of an article in today’s (Sunday) New York Times. It’s by 80-year-old Oliver Sacks. I’m stealing it for this blog cause I, too, feel joyful. I feel joyful more often now than I did in my 20′s or 30′s . . . and most definitely more often than in my 40′s. 40′s can be really hard for women because we’re moving into a momentous, tectonic shift, a hormonal shift that for –not all, but many– women, can feel like we’ve lost ourselves and may never get those selves back.…

I just got back from Brazil to spend a few days in New York promoting my new Prime Time Yoga DVD. I’m excited about this DVD. I have been doing yoga since the mid 1990s. As is my wont, I went from never doing yoga to learning Ashtanga, probably the most rigorous kind of yoga. I had an excellent teacher and because of that I developed good form and technique.…

I arrived in Sao Paolo on Monday morning. It is 6 hours later than in Los Angeles and it is summer down here (although not as hot as I had expected). The purpose of the trip was two-fold: to give the keynote speech at the annual Longevity Forum and to promote my book, “Prime Time” which was just translated into Portuguese by the publishing house Comanhia das Letras.…

I haven’t blogged since the Oscars! There are all sorts of reasons why and I cannot give them all to you quite yet. This is partly because I have had some life changing experiences that I still need to process. The Vietnamese Buddhist Thich Nhat Hanh wrote, “Our own lives are the instruments with which we experiment with truth.” Yes!…

I’ve been deep into production on my new Prime Time workout DVD, and you haven’t been hearing from me as regularly. I am also working on some additional new content that I cant quite talk about yet, but I’m really excited about it. Unfortunately it hasn’t left me with much time to blog.

Me and Richard

Sunday night were the Oscars, Richard and I attended the Vanity Fair dinner party and sat with many interesting people to watch the show.…

Working Out

I have gotten amazing, heartfelt feedback from people who are working out with my last two DVDs. One woman said she was 80 years old and had never exercised before in her life but was ‘hooked’ by my videos (her son gave them to her) and felt better than ever. Younger people who have gotten out of shape are telling me the same thing.…

I went east a few days early. Thank goodness cause jet lag was alive and well even 3 days later. My friends, the Bickfords, offered to let me stay in their beautiful East side apartment. Great bed, great sheets (waaaay high thread count, which counts when you’re desperate) and I still couldn’t sleep. I think it was the fault of Sutton Foster who so inspired me with her joyful, shining presence in “Anything Goes” that I developed a new regret…I never learned to tap dance.…
