This has been the fastest film I’ve ever done except for “Cat Ballou“.  This has been much more fun, though. There feels like a dusting of magic in the air every day…a good vibe. We like each other and we feel really good about what the film’s about. So we’ve gotten close and now it’ over…at least for me. Catherine and Lizzie and Nat have another week. Besides all that, it’s very beautiful up here and people have been really nice. The ‘background’ players (what we used to call ‘extras’) were mostly from around here. You can get a real sense of a place by hanging with extras…even for short bursts.

Every lunch break, these members of the Sound and Electrical crews, Spice, Vince Reed Camuto, John Ashton, and Russ Geltman on drums, gather to play and sing. And they’re really good. And they are Woodstock for me. As is Levon Helm who did another extraordinary Midnight Ramble concert at his studio last Saturday. What an extraordinary group of musicians Levon has assembled! I got there late because we worked till 9:30pm but joined my friends, Jennifer and Peter Buffett, Elizabeth Lesser and her husband, Tom, and my stepdaughter, Laura Turner Seydel and her son, John R. They came by for a 2-day visit which was very special because I don’t see them as much anymore and there is lots of catching up to do.. I videoed John R.’s birth and now he is looking at colleges in the region—Brown, Colgate, Dartmouth, for example. Because he is a fine and passionate ice hockey player, he went from Atlanta to a high school in Toronto, Canada, where he is the starting goalie. I am so proud of the Seydel family. All of them are committed to trying to make the world a better, cleaner more peaceful place.

A wonderful piece of synchronicity: This Magic Bus that now sits in my character’s (Grace’s) yard, used to be parked in Atlanta in front of the Captain Planet Foundation which Laura chairs. It grew from the animated children’s environmental TV series of the same name that was created by her father, Ted Turner, and Barbara Pyle. She couldn’t get over the coincidence.

I’ve had some wonderful, touching and funny scenes with Catherine these last few days and also with Lizzie Olsen and Nat Wolff, my “grandchildren.” These young ones have a long, bright future ahead of them. It feels strange to be leaving. You get so close and then it’s over. But I sense that we will all cross paths again. Certainly I intend to see Catherine once we’re both back in L.A. She gave me an iPod the other day. She and her son, Clyde, loaded over 400 songs on it that they thought I’d like and Alinda taught me to buy and add songs and albums. What a great technology. I can”t wait to teach Richard so he won’t have to lug dozens of CDs everywhere with him.

Alinda drove me into the City and to JFK this morning. I missed my flight cause I fell asleep in the lounge but got the last seat on the next flight out which is where I am writing this.

I’ll post from Richard’s and am late posting because I didn’t have a signal for quite awhile.

Maia, the daughter of Lori Hicks, who did my makeup, loves to watch Tulea when I'm shooting. She is a most creative girl, putting together her own picture book with drawings of the animals, people and events that she’s encountered while up here

There they are, brother (Elan) and sister, guarding Tulea and passing me tissues when I get emotional. It was a lovely scene between me and Catherine.

Chase Crawford, who comes up to play "Cole" in the movie on weekends when he's not doing "Gossip Girls." It is a pleasure to be able to say that he is not just drop-dead-gorgeous, but a talented and very nice young man. Raised in Texas, Southern Baptist, he speaks well for the church.

    Jane:

    I was hoping you would write a final blog. This is a message for you and it does not have to be printed if you do not wish to.

    My admiration for you has grown throughout the shooting of this movie and this is a thank you letter.

    That was not just because of your blog or any of the acting you were doing but more so for the way you treated your fellow actors and crew, especially one of the young cast memebers, that being Nat Wolff.

    As a moderator of Nat’s official fan site, I found it just so easy, to keep his fans informed, of what was going on with his efforts in this movie. It was mainly a matter of linking to your blog.

    The impression that we could all feel through your writing and pictures is that you genuinely cared for and liked Nat, as if he was one of your own grandchildren. You treated him and all the others, with the greatest of respect and caring. That, to me, says volumes about you as a person.

    Each of his fans likes this guy for our own reasons but I am thinking you have seen the same qualities and talent that I have.

    Anyway many thanks for your efforts and the love that exudes from your being. You are not just a great actress but also a wonderful person.

    j’ai une amie qui était attachée de presse dans le cinéma. Elle disait aussi que le temps d’un tournage d’un film tous sont comme une famille. Je comprends que cela soit difficile de vous séparer après un long moment ensemble. Vous devez quand même être contente de rentrer chez vous dans votre maison !?

    Hey Jane, Can’t wait to see this movie. Hard to imagine that it could be more fun than “Cat”, whenever I am feeling a bit down I put that movie on or “Barefoot” to cheer me up! I’m sure our Bruce did a great job too. I have to get to Woodstock one day! Have a good rest now. Cheers from Downunder.

    Great pictures! You’ve had a GREAT time working on this movie! I know it must be so hard to leave people you’ve become close to while making a movie! Hopefully, you’ll see some of them in the future! Think how wonderful it is to be a little sad to leave your cast mates….instead of feeling like you can’t wait to get away from them! Life experiences are so bittersweet a lot of the time, but I’d rather have them that way than not to have had them at all!:)

    JFK , I feel asleep there myself, even spend a few nights sleeping in JFKm,last year when you were still playing in the The Eugene O’Neill Theater. I recall , that you were in one place in I was going the other , was in London and you just going out of London. Another great cast, looks like people just showed up and had a good time.
    Headed back to LA ? weather been ok, than again where you were will be a cold story in a few weeks.

    ( for Jane’s eyes concering the story or screenplay , with Kirk Douglas and Michael Douglas with his health issues. I took it on myself to be more pro-active and contacted Sean Connery, whom I have be in contact before years ,we have some polical interest that are the same. I was feel that even a retired Connery maybe interested in playing a 100 year old man. I wrote the part with Kirk Douglas in mind , but would not want him to feel that there is any presure on him, with Michael Douglas medical condition, over doing this role. Kirk Douglas is my frist person on mind , and I respect any feeling or needs that he now has, so maybe Sean will do the role. In the end the story is about people and feelings and that is how everything should be if Kirk would do fine , if Connery if works )

    Even Nat Woff has a brighter future than you! No one saw or heard of Mao’s Last Dancer and no one will see or hear of this one either!! Why are you fucking that 15 year old boy you ugly old tranny?? Your future isn’t bright cause you’re an ugly old has been about to drop dead in a year only remembered for workout tapes and now you’re fucking teenage boys! He only lets you rape him so you’ll get him roles you nasty old bag!
    Oh and HE IS A HORRIBLE ACTOR..NO MATTER HOW MANY LINKS YOU PROVIDE TO REMIND PEOPLE OF THE NAKED BROTHERS BAND SHOW!!

    jayne, you are and have been a classic for me. as we age, it is amazing to know we go thru this process with beauty and grace. i know personally that younger men are still intrigued with older, wiser, beautiful women. my guyfriend is 23 years younger than me. and, so it goes… i am 10 years younger than you, but i look to you as being a women in “all” ways. thank you and be happy. kathie

    Hi Jane,

    Just want to say a quick hello! It was nice to meet you last summer during the filming of Peace, Love & Misunderstanding (I played the role of Tara’s mom). I enjoyed our chat about how you played a Thayer on screen…and I was born a Thayer. What a special movie On Golden Pond is! I’m sure you agree.

    I can’t wait to see our final product of PLM and I wish you continued successes throughout your journey!!

  • "At age 50, I broke all the career rules and left acting for 15 years. Ten of those years I was married to Ted Turner and after that I spent 5 years writing my memoirs and traveling the world on behalf of women and girls. Needless to say, returning to my profession late in life has been an interesting, exciting and unusual experience! "Monster-in-Law" was my first film after this hiatus and was one of my most fun professional experiences after "9 to 5"! During my 15 year absence, I gained confidence and, as a result, I feel that my acting is better, more nuanced and relaxed than ever."
