Entrance to L'Oreal factory.

I was particularly interested in learning about and seeing the reconstructed human skin that is made in another L’Oreal factory further away and on which the company tests its products.

Since 1999, the company has been making reconstructed biological skin that can replicate all different types of skin the world over including the skin of the scalp and even the eye cornea. Skin care products are evaluated on this reconstructed skin and it is used (grafted) as well on burn victims

Sample of reconstructed skin.

More samples of reconstructed skin.

I donned a lab coat and took a tour of the part of the factory where makeup foundations are made.
