I’m here for various events on behalf of my non-profit, The Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, and to see my daughter and grandkids. It’s been rainy and cold but still, as always, Atlanta is a warm and friendly place and I love being back and seeing so many friends and colleagues

Kris Spain, a business woman who is on our board of directors, opened her home to forty women who came to hear me speak about our work and my new book, “Prime Time.”

A nice dog lover offered to hold Tulea (yes, I brought her with me!) while I spoke. There was even a woman who had a coton de Tulear from the same breeder in Montreal that I bought Tulea from. I think they’re cousins in fact! What a small world.

Yesterday we had a similar luncheon with 20 women at Ginny Brewer’s home and it was a very moving event for me. There were a number of women I hadn’t seen in a long time, women I had gotten to know quite well before I moved away. Some had been to my ranch and fished with me in times gone by. As I spoke of my own experiences with love and divorce and learning through pain, I saw tears of recognition and realized that in the almost three years that I’ve been away, many of their lives have changed as well. Marriages have ended and the scary questions of “what do I do now? Who am I now? Will anyone ever love me again,” are very present in their lives just as they have been in mine in years past. One thing we all had in common was the realization of the importance of our women friends. What would we do without each other? I reminded them how lucky women are to have such intimate relationships to get us through. This is something that is much harder for men. Yes, men have their buddies and they talk about sports and cars and whatever, but intimacy, the sharing of deep emotions and empathy comes harder for most men.

We had a wonderful board of directors dinner last night but I could feel myself getting sick. In fact, after coming all this way, I wasn’t able to attend our board meeting today. I’m feeling better now, though and pretty certain I’ll be able to bring my grandchildren to see “Cavalia” tomorrow, the show with horses and then have dinner with my daughter and son-in-law, and take everyone to see “Hugo.” I’ve already seen it and absolutely loved it—but not in 3-D– so that’s what we’ll do tomorrow night. Then I’m going to my ranch to try and finish up my new books about adolescent sexuality and, relationships.

I thought it was even better than the first Cavalia. Not only were there the amazing horses (many breeds, not just the white Arabs shown here though they are my favorite), but extraordinary acrobats, eleven of them from Guinea—all cousins I was told—and a vast, panoramic set that became the steppes of Russia, the plains of Africa, melting snow, many settings that had richness and texture.

After Cavalia, I took my grandkids to meet my daughter and son-in-law to have dinner at the Buckhead diner and then we saw "Hugo" in 3-D which was a hit with everyone. The lead boy, Hugo, reminds me of my grandson, Malcolm.

Yesterday, just about every major film star and major director, well, 125 of us, who has worked for Paramount Pictures, gathered on a sound stage to have our group photo taken for the studios 100th anniversary. Let me tell you, it was very thrilling. I was in the 90th anniversary photo and many of the same people were assembled. Some, obviously, have passed. I think especially of Jane Russell who was there with us 10 years ago.

I wish I could have taken pictures of everyone there but it wasn’t possible. Here are the ones I did get:

Eva Marie Saint. She has known my family for many decades. She was at my father’s home where we all gathered the day he died. They were extremely close. She is the nicest, kindest, most lively woman...still. I loved seeing her again

Mark Wahlberg and Leonardo DiCaprio. Tyrese is behind them. They’re clearly not happy that I asked them to pose for me. Tough!

Paula Patton, was placed close to me so I had the chance to get to know her a little. She’s gorgeous, wonderful in Mission Impossible (not usually my favorite genre but it was a perfect action movie and my heart was in my throat when Tom Cruise ran down the building in Dubai—I saw it being built). Paula was so warm and sweet to everyone. I was impressed. Darn! I don’t have a picture!

Martin Scorsese. His film, “Hugo”, is one of my favorites...and I haven’t even seen it in 3-D yet. Even so, I was transported into a fantasy that was picture perfect in every way.

By the way, my primary Paramount film was “Barefoot In The Park.”

Mickey Rooney. He was at the last Paramount shoot 10 years ago and he’s still effervescent and endearing.

So, those who were there but I didn’t photograph (and it’s not a full list!) were Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Robert Downey Jr., Morgan Freeman, Sumner Redstone, DeNiro, Jerry Lewis (!), Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise, William Shatner, Steven Spielberg, Jaimie Lee Curtis, Brad Pitt, Kevin Costner, Olivia Newton John, Dustin Hoffman…I can’t go on. It was awesome.

We also attended a luncheon honoring Marty Scorsese and his film “Hugo.”

Richard and I were at a table with Mike Medavoy (who was my agent ions ago before he became a successful producer) and his wife, Irena, and, shown here, Julian Fellowes and his wife. Julian is the creator and main writer of “Downtown Abbey,” the amazing TV series which is nominated for a Golden Globe tomorrow night.

Here are this year’s films I think are “must-see:” “The Descendents“, “Money Ball“, “Hugo“, “The Artist“, “Midnight in Paris“, “The Help” and “Bridesmaids“. There is also the Iranian film, “A Separation“, which I found important and profound. Angelina Jolie’s movie, “Land of Blood and Honey“, is also a really well done, moving film about the war in former Yugoslavia. Performances that are amazing though not in these pictures include, in my opinion, Meryl’s, Glenn Close’s, and Michelle Williams.

Later this evening I will present the Golden Globe to the Best Picture in the Musical/Comedy category. Stay tuned!

Second, my latest PRIME TIME Workouts “FIRM & BURN” and “TRIM TONE & FLEX” have been in the top ten since their release last month.

My latest workouts are a lot like the ones I used to do. I’m in a studio, with other people who are all at different fitness levels. The music is fun and we even have Live musicians. The workouts are geared towards older people or people who perhaps haven’t worked out in a long time, either way you will get a really great workout. I’ve gotten some incredibly moving feedback from my virtual family. One 80 year old woman said she’s never worked out before and this has changed her life. (her son gave them to her for Christmas.) Even 40 year olds are saying they’ve lost weight and feel great!

Thanks to all of you who have been with me to help make PRIME TIME such a success I could never accomplish any of this without such incredible support. I hope you will continue to write to me on Facebook, Twitter, and my blog about your progress. I wish I could actually answer every comment or question, but know that I do read your feedback and it really helps as I move forward.

I met him years ago at the L.A. Forum and have a picture of us together then but here we are now…none the worse for wear. His voice was strong as ever, his band extraordinary and, one of the women back-up singers said Bob may be starting to work on a new album. Fingers crossed.

My partiality for him pre-existed my discovery—during a radio interview he did in 1981– that his song, “Her Strut,” was motivated by moi!!!! He confirmed it last night. I am flattered, to say the least and you’ll know why when you hear the lyrics. Bob sang it last night and did a shout out to me in front of a packed stadium.

My daughter, Vanessa, her husband and my grandchildren, are here and will stay longer. The kids are really getting into the skiing. It’s so great when they can start young...not as far to fall and joints more flexible so injuries fewer. I’m about to take everyone to a Xmas brunch.

Even though I finished doing press last week in New York, I’ve been so busy I haven’t had much time to write. I do however have lots of photos to share which I’ve been trying to take as often as I can.
I’m promoting the release of my latest workout DVD’s from my PRIME TIME fitness line. The latest in the now (4) DVD series are: “Firm & Burn” and “Trim Tone and Flex“. I’m thrilled that the new DVD’s are out now and I can share them with you. I hope If you do them you will share your progress with me. Remember, exercise is one of the most important components for healthy aging, and its never to late to start.

A great audience!

While New York I visited the Today Show with Matt Lauer, The View, Joy Behar, Piers Morgan, Dr Oz, The Today Show with Kathy Lee and Hoda Kotb, and Anderson Cooper. Some of these have already aired, some have not. I appreciate how many of you comment on Facebook and Twitter while you watch these appearances, and many of you in real time! I will add links (whatever is available) to where you can watch past broadcasts online at the end of this blog.

Harry Conick Jr was the guest after me on the Today Show. Here he is waiting, If you are wondering why he seemed tired. Its cause he’s doing a Broadway show, and this was a really early morning. I know how he feels.

Here I am in New York with Roman Keitel, Richard’s godson, (son of Daphna and Harvey), Roman is showing me his iphone game at which he excels. We made a deal: when he comes to L.A., I’ll take him to The Magic Castle (I adore magic & am a member) if he’ll teach me to play his game.

I admire Dr Oz so much. We learn so much from his show. Last month he presented me with the Shape Magazine Fitness Icon Award. Last week I was thrilled to talk with him about Longevity. The episode airs tomorrow! http://www.doctoroz.com/

I ran into Oprah at the Dr Oz Show! She’s going to India with Deepak Chopra soon. Now that should be a transforming experience for her and that means, soon for all of us, cause you know she’ll pass along the wisdom she acquires!

Anderson Cooper has a great new show too. A beautiful set overlooking Columbus Circle. We managed to surprise him with some on set fun. Tune in to watch this Friday December 16th. Anderson looked swell in that baby blue sweater that matched his eyes. He is a very good and easy to talk to interviewer.

And there he is, between Daphna and me. Whew! How can a person be so talented on so many levels, gorgeous and really nice? Very impressive!

He is the epitome of a consummate showman. I like his work as an actor. But his singing and dancing and interaction with the audience is really special. Richard (a hard sell when it comes to theatre) said it was the most enjoyable evening of musical theatre he’d ever seen. Jackman goes out into the audience, brought a dude named Ed (in jeans) up on the stage and got him to sing; as “Man From Oz,” dressed in gold lame, he went into an upper box and sang from a guy’s lap.

With Paul Boon and Nathan Mundraby, the didgeridoo players who performed with Hugh and Olive Knight, a respected vocal artist, activist and spokesperson for Australia's Indigenous people.

He had a wonderful section about Australia with indigenous performers and talked about Nomad Two Worlds, a non-profit that works with aboriginals, their culture and community and work in crisis zones like Japan and Haiti.

It was a wonderful evening. But, speaking of evenings, I cannot believe I forgot to write about the fantastic fundraiser we had on Thursday night for The Women’s Media Center. It was a HUGE success, raising lots of money, bringing together a house full of women powerhouses, Sheryl Sandberg, Lekha Singh, Arianna Huffington, Victoria Jackson, Pat Mitchell, and many others. My pal Wanda Sykes, was the very funny M.C. Awards were given to outstanding and brave journalists and media women. I presented to CBS correspondent, Lara Logan, who was sexually assaulted in Egypt during the uprising and had the guts to talk about it. Many female correspondents who work in conflict zones are assaulted but—out of shame, fear for their jobs, and retribution —stay silent. Lara spoke up and it has made a difference for other women, giving them the courage to speak. Gloria Steinem said, at one point, the media bosses say “’we don’t want to send women into conflict zones because they may get hurt.’ I’ll feel okay about that when they say, ‘we don’t want to send men into conflict zones because they may get hurt!’” At which point, Wanda (who was sitting next to me) grabbed my knee and almost yelled, “I get it, Jane! Now I get it!” Gloria has that remarkable way of finding just the right words to help us all ‘get it.’

The wonderful Soledad O’Brian received an award and spoke movingly. Maggie Wilderotter, Chair and CEO of Frontiers Media, gave a really impressive speech in accepting her Media Woman of the Year Award.

For those who don’t know us, The Women’s Media Center works to make women and girls visible and powerful in the media. We do it by promoting women as subjects and decision-makers within the media, training women and girls so they are media-ready and media-savvy, exposing sexism in the media, and creating innovative new media and original content. One of our programs is called “Name it, Change it,” pointing to the fact that we can never change anything in the world unless we recognize what it is and call out its name.

Media is a central part of our culture, forming our consciousness, telling us much about who we are and how we are supposed to be in the world. If women are denigrated through sexism or simply omitted from the discussion; if the media does not see the issues that impact our lives from a woman’s perspective as well as a man’s, if women don’t see themselves reflected equally and wholly in the media we will be disadvantaged and the culture in general will be diminished and it will be far harder to solve our problems. It’s not just a question of having female faces as newscasters (though that’s important), but right now, the people who decide what stories will be told and from what perspective are almost all men. Behind the scenes, in positions of heft, women make up only 3% of the jobs. This is just Wrong! The WMC works to change this. Check out our website.

I cannot believe that I haven’t blogged since Thanksgiving Weekend. Well, yes I can. I have been back-to-back busy, that’s why. But it has all been so exciting that I wish I had kept you updated every step of the way. I even forgot to bring my camera so, not only have I not written but no pictures except this one of me with a group of high school girls called Girl Up, a group sponsored by the U.N. Foundation created by my favorite ex-husband, Ted Turner. They performed at the end of a 90 minute session I hosted yesterday as part of the TEDx Conference, the 2nd TED conference for and about women that was held all day yesterday at the Paley Center and produced by the amazing Pat Mitchell.

I have been working hard to make my session powerful and, frankly, I have been on pins and needles with fear these last days, worried that something would go wrong. It went better than I could have imagined and the feedback has been so wonderful.

My session was about aging and was based in large part on the topics I cover in my new book, “Prime Time.” The session was called “Rebirth” and I love this: the notion of age as rebirth. But that is what aging can be, what it often is for seniors, and a series of exceptional speakers helped explained why: Dr Laura Carstensen, founding Director of the Stanford Longevity Center, spoke about why older people tend to be less stressed, less anxious, more able to roll with life’s challenges; Dr Michelle Warren, the remarkable doctor who has been voted best Doctor in America since 2004 spoke about why women approaching menopause need to take a new look at the advantages hormone replacement therapy can bring us, that it is not a “yes” or “no” issue, but a very individual matter that should be explored with your doctor and not avoided because of the myths that it causes breast cancer and heart attacks. Author and feminist, Suzanne Braun Levine spoke about how to handle the scary, confusing period that women go through as they approach menopause, a period that Suzanne refers to as the “Fertile Void,” a time that can, in fact, be the beginning of a whole new, profound life. Dr Oz was powerful in his talk about why remaining physically active is critical to aging successfully. Gloria Steinem spoke moving about what she has learned in her life and what she still hope for the future, for younger generations of girls and Anthropologist and author, Mary Catherine Bateson, spoke about how women elders are the ones best suited to save the world.

I’m skimming over what these wonderful people had to say but perhaps you can watch on line on the TEDx website. The talk will also be posted soon on the larger TED Conference website. As soon as I have exact link information I will post and tweet it out.

This weekend I will spend preparing for all the TV shows I do on Monday and Tuesday: The Today Show (twice!), The View, Joy Behar, Anderson Cooper, The Dr Oz Show, Piers Morgan, and Jimmy Kimmel. I am doing them all within the first 3 days of next week but they won’t air till the following week. We will post the air dates on this site soon.

Along with that, I‘m excited about seeing “The Hugh Jackman One-Man Show” on Saturday and “Other Desert Cities” on Sunday and dinners with friends in between. I am popping out of my skin with excitement about all this…and there’s more but it has to remain secret till I am given the go-ahead to tell you.

I’ll do my best to remember to bring my camera to all these events.
