FINAL SEASON OF NEWSROOM, GRACE & FRANKIE, & HALLOWEEN

Posted on November 6, 2014, in My Blog, with 7 Comments

This Sunday on HBO at 9pm, the final season of The Newsroom begins. There are only 6 episodes this season and I hope you watch them because Aaron Sorkin has outdone himself with the finale he has created. All the actors (and HBO execs) were on pins and needles wondering what he would come up with . . . especially given that he ended Season 2 with what could have been interpreted as a finale.…

OPPOSITES A FRACK!

Posted on October 31, 2014, in My Blog, with 13 Comments

Happy Halloween! I’ve been working a lot which is great, and I will fill you in via my upcoming blogs, but today wanted to let you know that this coming Sunday, Nov 2nd, I will be on The Simpsons! Last January I was invited to be the voice of Democratic Assemblywoman, Maxine Lombard who is secretly Mr. Burns’ girlfriend, a most unlikely pairing as you’ll see when you watch, and a fact that horrified my grandchildren.…

POWER OF WOMEN

Posted on October 16, 2014, in My Blog, with 23 Comments

On October 10th I was one of the Lifetime Impact Honorees at the 6th annual Variety’s Power of Women luncheon.

In a partnership with Lifetime, Variety established the award in order to honor Women in Entertainment who have a significant philanthropic impact. Imagine how excited I was to receive this award alongside, Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Viola Davis, and Universal’s Donna Langley.…

I wrote a week ago but I’ve had problems with my computer so I couldn’t send it out until today.

Women stars of THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU: Abigail Spencer, Tina Fey, Connie Britton and moi

I arrived early evening last Saturday, Sept 6th, and had dinner with my BFF, Paula Weinstein, her daughter Hannah Rosenberg (my goddaughter) and her friend at the Asian restaurant in the new Shangrila Hotel.…

HAVING FUN ON “GRACE & FRANKIE”

Posted on September 3, 2014, in My Blog, with 19 Comments

Okay, it’s starting to get real fun on this new Netflix series I’m shooting with Lily Tomlin (Don’t know when it will air–sometime after the thirteen episodes of the first season are finished –and you can start binge watching!). But I want to apologize to my blog readers because I haven’t been writing much. That’s because we shoot such long hours and there isn’t any time and what little leftover time there is, is spent (by me, at least) watching the dailies which takes hours but which is critical for me–that’s how I learn what works, what doesn’t, what I need to do more of or less of and that’s where I get a true sense of what the director is going for.…

STARTING THE NEW SERIES, “GRACE & FRANKIE,” WITH LILY TOMLIN, MARTIN SHEEN & SAM WATERSTON

Posted on August 17, 2014, in My Blog, with 29 Comments

I was very excited when Martin Sheen was cast as my husband and Sam Waterston as Lily’s. It feels good to have my pal from “The Newsroom” with us on this new adventure. Most of my Newsroom scenes were with him and I grew to care for him a lot. I’ve never worked with Martin before but we’ve met on several occasions and we share values and concerns…actually, all four of us do.…

LAST DAY ON THE NEWSROOM

Posted on July 18, 2014, in My Blog, with 24 Comments

I feel very sad. Being on this show, being able to say Aaron Sorkin’s brilliant dialogue, working with amazing actors who also happen to be exceptional people– Jeff Daniels, Sam Waterston, Emily Mortimer, Chris Messina.. Has been a huge experience and real treat. I’ve learned a lot watching all of them and talking to them.

This last series of scenes that will bring “The Newsroom” to it’s close has brought a new actor into the group: actor/writer BJ Novak who’s been fun and fascinating to get to know.…

PAOLO SORRENTINO & ROME

Posted on July 11, 2014, in My Blog, with 31 Comments

Maestro Aldo Signoretti putting on one of my 3 wigs for my last scene in “Youth.”

This film, “Youth,” has been a wonderful and very different experience for me. For those of you who are unfamiliar with director Sorrentino’s work, he won the Best Foreign Film Oscar this year for “The Great Beauty“ which was a stunning, Fellini-esque, plunge into the world of Roman high society just as his previous “Il Divo” was a plunge into the intertwined corruptions of the government of President Andreotti, the Mafia and the Vatican.…

THANK YOU, DAVID O. RUSSELL

Posted on June 25, 2014, in My Blog, with 40 Comments

You know how sometimes the very thing you need the most at a particular moment suddenly appears? It can come in many forms . . . a book, a prayer, a person, a film, a letter, an epiphany. Well, many months ago, film director David O. Russell (“Silver Linings Playbook,” “American Hustle,” “The Fighter, “Three Kings”…you get the idea: he’s one of the best!) told me I was going to be invited to speak at the annual dinner held in Boston in June to celebrate McLean Hospital and that he hoped I would accept.…
