A WEEK IN THE LIFE OF ME

Posted on April 15, 2015, in My Blog, with 8 Comments

This particular week began with rehearsals for a performance of a pivotal scene from the play, “Top Secret”, by Geoffrey Cowen about the Pentagon Papers. The cast included Stacy Keach and Holly Palance, Jack’s daughter. We were going to perform the scene at a fundraising gala celebrating the 40th anniversary of L.A. Theatre Works. ATW is a non-profit that gets well known actors to record classical and contemporary plays which are brought into schools, prisons and archived in libraries.…

IN MEXICO CITY FOR GRACE & FRANKIE

Posted on March 27, 2015, in My Blog, with 35 Comments

A bunch of stars from various Netflix series came to Mexico City to promote their shows. Mine, of course, is “Grace and Frankie” which streams on May 8th and you can watch the entire first season in 6 1/2 hours!

We all stayed at the Four Seasons which was very nice.

My first morning I got up at 4:30am (3:30 in L.A.…

BACK IN THE SWIM OF ACTIVISM

Posted on March 17, 2015, in My Blog, with 12 Comments

I love acting, don’t get me wrong, and I’m excited about my new Netflix series, “Grace and Frankie,” with Lily Tomlin. But sometimes, when a long time goes by and I haven’t been speaking out (or acting out) in the presence of other women and men, girls and boys, on issues we are collectively fighting for, I feel like I’m emptying out, shrinking up, and the problems of the world feel like they will engulf me.…

LILY & JANE2 DO SUNDANCE

Posted on February 2, 2015, in My Blog, with 20 Comments

We left Los Angeles Sunday January 25th for Park City and the 15th annual Sundance Film Festival. Hard as it is to believe, Lily had never been and I had never gone not to work but just to see films. It happened like this: Our friend, Pat Mitchell, who among her many titles became Chair of the Board of the Sundance Institute this year, invited Lily and me to be interviewed by her for the Women In Film brunch Monday morning.…

LIVING IN BOOTSTRAP AMERICA

Posted on January 13, 2015, in My Blog, with 14 Comments

This is a book just out that I just finished reading and needed to blog about. I’ve read many books about people living at or below the poverty line, subsisting on tips or minimum wage when they had a job. I’ve never read one written by such a person and its author, Linda Tirado, is such a person and she is a very good writer who describes life on the economic margins with biting wit and a lot of insight.…

I ♥ MIAMI

Posted on January 8, 2015, in My Blog, with 20 Comments

I didn’t expect to love Miami when I went there the beginning of this December to visit my son, Troy, and his wife, Simone. The reason I didn’t blog about this trip sooner is because I’ve had no internet for almost 2 weeks.

I’d been to Miami in 1972 –protesting the Vietnam War at the Republican convention together with Vietnam Veterans– and thought “yuck.” But a lot’s happened to Miami since then plus Troy does have a way of putting together a visit to a city that makes things fun and beautiful.…

My Birthday Dinner With Richard, brother Peter and his wife, Parky

Okay, I turned 77 today. My Winter Solstice birthday. A perfect day: I worked out for an hour, climbed a mountain, meditated for an hour, took a hot bath/jacuzzi with Epsom Salts and another salt called “Pink Love,” and I poured some Baby Oil into it cause the walk was windy and my skin felt dry.…

AND IT’S A WRAP ON “GRACE & FRANKIE”!

Posted on November 26, 2014, in My Blog, with 17 Comments

We finished shooting at 2am last Saturday morning. Whew! It’s very nice to be able to sleep in and not have to learn pages of dialogue every day. It’s also bittersweet because I already miss my “Grace & Frankie” family, especially Lily. Towards the end of shooting on Saturday–like at midnight–she and I got onto a laughing jag that we couldn’t stop.…
