Working Out
I have gotten amazing, heartfelt feedback from people who are working out with my last two DVDs. One woman said she was 80 years old and had never exercised before in her life but was ‘hooked’ by my videos (her son gave them to her) and felt better than ever. Younger people who have gotten out of shape are telling me the same thing.
While I was researching my book, “Prime Time,” I was struck by the depth of research showing that staying physically active is just about the #1 factor in whether you have a good Third Act or not. As Jane Brody, New York Times health writer says, “It’s not that very old people…can exercise because they are healthy…rather, they achieve a healthy old age because they exercise.” Activity strengthens the heart and bones, improves circulation, reduces obesity, thickens the skin and can help with depression because of the endorphins released into the system. Endorphins are brain chemicals that give relief from pain, enhance the immune system, reduce stress and bring us a sense of well-being. For some people it takes only ten minutes of moderate exercise to experience the endorphin rush. For others it might take 30 minutes.
Some people mistakenly think, “Oh, I can’t exercise. I’ve never done it…or I stopped that years ago!” Well, we’ve all heard the truism, “Use it or lose it.” What this leaves out, however, is that if it’s lost we can get it back. Not only can we recover lost functions but “in some cases we can actually increase function beyond our prior level.”
It’s important to do both cardio (aerobic) as well as resistance exercises. Aerobic activity is the only thing that gets rid of fat from all over your body including the marbled fat deep inside your muscles — dieting alone can’t do this. There’s more: All brain experts will tell you that physical activity will do more for brain health than the expensive computer-based brain games that are so the rage these days (though doing both might not be a bad idea!). Aerobics also helps the brain by reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke and improves cognitive functioning by slowing the age-related shrinkage of the frontal cortex of the brain which is where “executive functioning” like reasoning and problem solving take place. Reports show that as many as fifty million older Americans may get Alzheimers by mid-century. While research is underway to prevent or postpone the disease, scientists already know, as Jane Brody writes, “…people who exercise regularly in midlife are 1/3 as likely to develop Alzheimer’s in their 70’s. Even those who start exercising in their 60’s cut their risk of dementia in half.” Now THAT’S saying something!!
All of us know that we tend to put on weight as we get older. This is due partly to our tendency to be less active while continuing to eat the way we always have. But it is also due to the fact that we lose, on average, 3 to 5 percent of our muscle tissue each decade after age 30 so that by the time we reach seventy-five, our resting metabolism (basal metabolism) will have slowed, and dropped by about 10 percent– unless, of course, we become active enough to maintain our muscles and consciously eat fewer (but more nutrient-rich) calories.
Here’s a dramatic example of what can happen: If you eat just 100 calories more than you burn up every day, you can expect to gain more than fifty pounds in five years. In order to lose this fat, you have to burn it up as a source of energy. (ie., if the calories you eat are less than the number of calories you are burning as energy, then the additional energy you need will have to come from stored fat.) To sum up: Aerobic or fat-burning types of activities will help with weight loss as will increasing your resting metabolism rate through weight-training or resistance exercise to maintain muscle mass. According to research done at Tufts on people fifty to seventy-two years old, muscle mass can actually be increased more than 200 percent with exercise.
I had been out of the workout business since the mid 90s, but what I learned from my research motivated me to get back into it. I created a new brand, Jane Fonda’s PRIME TIME workout. I figured ‘who better than me? I’m old, I’m have physical issues like most people, I can’t do what I used to do—jump up and down, splits, etc—and I have credibility in this area. Why not make a whole new series of programs for boomers and seniors that are safe and effective? Nobody else is doing it!’

On the set of Firm & Burn
My first two DVD’s (Fit & Strong” and “Walkout”) came out last year and are best sellers they are currently available online and in stores. “Fit & Strong” won the Best Fitness Disc Award from Home Media Magazine. Now I am excited to announce the release of my two newest DVD’s. The first, called “Firm & Burn” is available right now at Target Stores. The second is called “Trim, Tone & Flex” and will be available, along with “Firm & Burn” in stores everywhere and online on December 6th. Both titles are available for preorder on Amazon. They are more like my older videos in that I have other people with me, real people, not models or buff dudes, and the music is fabulous: A live band on set doing Doo Wop, Funk, Latin…it’s really fun.

Home Media Magazine Best Fitness Disc Award
So just keep in mind what The MacArthur Foundation’s Study of Successful Aging, concluded: physical activity is “perhaps the single most important thing an older person can do to remain healthy… the crux of successful aging, regardless of other factors.”
And, please, if you do use these programs, let me know your thoughts—good or bad. You have no idea how much I learn from the people who write to me on my blog, facebook, and twitter.

- Prime Time DVDs

Jane,
I picked up “Burn & Firm” at Target on Friday and did this workout over the weekend. I LOVE this workout. The music is great and I enjoy the class setting. It reminds me a lot of your earlier workouts that I enjoy so much. Can’t wait to get your next one!
Tammy, hooray!thanks for the feedback. Xx
New workout is so great. Makes me feel more stretched and dancer-like than the NYC Ballet Workouts! But your hip workout gear is even more inspiring. What brand are you wearing in what looks like one-piece outfits? Will you share that secret? I’m one of those people who showers BEFORE I go to the gym and chooses my wardrobe carefully. Every little trick to get moving.
Jane,
I exercise to your new Prime Time DVD workouts every day. I especially love the Firm and Burn with the class setting and the live music. At the end of a hard day, doing this workout with you and the rest of the class gives me such a sense of joy, probably b/c it makes me feel like I’m dancing in a way too, while I’m working out.
You are inspiration to me, by the way. Not only do you look beautiful but you are obviously so fit and healthy.
Thank you so much for making these work outs, for your book ‘Prime Time’ and for being a role model of aging well.
Angela
Hello Jane:
I just saw the photos of you at Cannes Festival. You look amazing and always have. I am 66 next month and have always been in excellent shape as I am athletic but I don’t work out. I want to start as I am just beginning to have some issues.
I just moved to the desert from the Northwest where the air was full of moisture. After two years in the desert I am just now starting to see my skin around my biceps on my arms and above my knees wrinkling. Lotion will not make it go away. Last year I could wear shorts and dresses without pantyhose and look great. I was modeling and got so many compliments on my legs. They were like a teenager’s just last year, no varicose veins and tanned. What can I do to tone this up or is it too late?
Which DVD should I get? I am healthy, no issues health wise. I golf and play tennis and hike and bike. I need exercises that keep these muscles toned. Oh and where my butt and legs meet the skin is starting to fall and become dry. I drink lots of water and take supplements. I am 5’8″ a size 4 & 6 and weigh the same as I did in high school. I’m also getting lines and jowels appearing on my face. Even now most people think I am in my 40′s but the desert is causing my skin to change rapidly. I do have an Ionizer I run all night in my bedroom and one humidifier in the living room. Any advice you can give me would be wonderful.
Please don’t tell me to move as I love the desert and the sunshine. I do wear SPF 40 on my face every day.
You do look fabulous!
Gosh Christi, that’s a tough one. Everyone’s skin tends to loosen and wrinkle at some point. Mine started in my 60s. Using good, rich lotions help but there isnt anything you can do to 100% eliminate it.
what is your take on weight resistance routine added to your program?..for example, your CD for aerobics then power-lifting…at 69, she bench press 50kg and squats 100kg
Bill, I have two PrimeTime DVDs–one iscardio, one is resistence
So listen to this i was in 6th grade and my step mom had a work out video that my sister and i used to do just for fun well i have been searching for that video it was beginner and an intermediate workout i loved it maybe could you tell me where i could get that and i know that you know what one i am talking about i miss it please let me know if you can??? i think it was around 16 years ago
and i absolutely love that movie monster in law you had me cracking up lol my kind of women
Tiffany, do you remember what I was wearing? How old are you, cause some of the early ones are not to boomers and seniors. The really old ones are not being sold anymore but I have bought back the rights and plan on doing a compilation of them in short, 5 min. segments that can be downloaded. Stay tuned.
Dear Jane: It’s time for me to start taking care of myself. Having been a life-long care giver to others (including my dear departed dog; thank you for your kind words), and now finding myself living alone (single mom to the best son in the world), I want to turn my care-giving nature towards something new and novel … me. Where to start? I am reading Prime Time and have found many insights and inspirations there. Having just turned 59, and having lead a, so far, unorthodox life, your recommendation for a Life Review speaks loudly to me. But what about my body? I have not “exercised” in years. My work involves sitting at a desk in front of a computer 8 hours a day. I am 5’8″ and weigh 160 lbs. I could stand to lose a few inches, but feel more the need to strenghten my body to galvanize a hopefully strengthening confidence and spirit. Which of your DVD’s would you recommend I start with?
Thanks again Jane, for all you do.
Hello Jane,
You seem almost to be on a compettitive edge with youself. I like the idea of subscribing to this self-seeking or fighting disposition. Maybe even a Samsara disposition. A quest; one man’s or woman’s struggle to find spiritual Enlightenment, in a would that is often dark and void.
I was writing …
Apathy
Fame and others dissipate in a exhaustive superficial blending of silence and apathy into the chill of memory
Ideas crumbled to dust so many fragments of words driven into our servitude dragged into death
As fashion decay and fade into insignificance or just frozen into form hushed into silence or into truth
Plunged into dispair change merge into character and charactors pass into oblivion
One thing is common to humanity a claim truth of destruction doomed to failure and platitudes ground to progress
by Timothy Dougherty
with love and care,
Jane, I saw you on Oprah yesterday – I live in Cape Town and we’re just watching her final season now! Thank you so much for being so alive, honest, real, full of energy and joy. You really inspired me. I’m approaching my third act in life, and wrestling with the reality that, hard as I’ve tried, I haven’t been able to build what I longed to, in my second act. I had to spend that time searching for myself. But I’ve found myself now, and I’m starting to build my life from this point on. You really let me see that it’s not at all too late for me. Thanks again, with all my heart.
Jennifer, try to find my new book, “Prime Time.” It will be or already is published in Australia. You’ll find it very useful, I think
This is so important. I’m 53, and I teach water aerobics to 40 somethings to 90 plus folks. They are all awesome. Now I can tell them even more reasons to exercise!
Thanks. And you might want to recommend my new book about aging–all its facets, “Prime TIme’
Hi Jane! You are such an inspiration to me. I did your exercise tapes in the 80′s, and now I’m almost 59, 3/4 of my way through your Third Act book (and loving it — love the pictures too — you were and are so pretty!) I was walking an hour every other day, then fell! hurt my knee, so walking for an hour like that is out for awhile, however, I got your Walk Out DVD from my library and did it yesterday and today and love it! I ordered it from Amazon today, as well as your Fit & Strong DVD, so I wouldn’t get bored because I plan to do them every single day. And yes, I will get your other one from Target, and watch for your Dec. one as well. I am so happy to know that through my 60′s, 70′s and beyond, thanks to you, that I can do these now at home, and stay fit. Thank you so much! I told my girlfriend about them because she is having hip issues and I know she could do these too and feel better about herself. These DVDs are thorough, yet relaxing and fun to do. I’m a year away from age 60, so like you, I’m getting ready for my Third Act so am enjoying your book. I also am on a wait list to get your Cookbook too from my library, and will try the recipes you’ve posted on this site. Thank you and Thank you for giving me the tools and information to make the last part of my life vibrant and healthy and enjoyable! I admire you SO much! (Love your dinnerware plates too!) Sandy
Just did Fit & Strong, (both workouts, so I’m really warmed up now). I’m 45, dancer, cyclist, rec skier, biz owner and recovering mom-a-holic. Gained/lost “an entire person” in adult life – THREE times, and not just during pregnancy (the Happy Meal years were brutal). Finally back on track – life begins at 45… This is a great workout to get the day started. Great stretch to continue on into cardio/run/walk/dance for those who need a little more. I’m no expert athlete, but I do work out almost daily and have gravitated more towards endurance training – ranked in top 30% of my age group after my first triathlon this year. The challenge now is to find “something simple” that will keep things humming on days when there’s no time for the 4-hour bike ride or longer workouts, so thanks for the kick-start, Jane!
So glad to hear this from you, Becky!
Jane,
I run a National Osteoporosis Foundation support group in North Texas. My ladies (and a few gents!) know that we need to exercise for stronger bones, but it can be boring. Also, we know we need to exercise safely. I was planning a series of group exercise sessions of some kind, when I came across your DVD “Fit & Strong”. It’s perfect for my group! How do I obtain permission to show your DVD’s at a support group meeting? Or at a series of meetings? I am very excited about this! My ladies will love this approach to exercise. This is something we can do and enjoy. It’s geared to our pace and yet challenging. 25 minutes per workout is just right. The background music is great, and they will be so encouraged by your remarks. The stretching and strengthening is just what we need. And many of us need to exercise in a group, to motivate each other.
Hey Jennie, Just do it! But thanks for being considerate enough to ask permission. Glad you think this will be good for your people. Do please ake some photos of them doing the programs and send them to be. I’ll post them.
So glad to hear this from you, Becky!
Moving on… did Firm & Burn (all of it) today. What fun! Love that Latin swagger, Jane! (Note: check your arm movements in mambo sequence on sidesteps – I think they’re reversed in parts). Just saw the clips from Today Show AND The View – busy day for you! Love your BOOTS on The View (and I’m still blushing from the hot topics). Also, now I have a sudden urge to hunt down alllll of the old videos (and convert to DVDs). Do you still have them?? I’m still dancing – no injuries here. Bring on the burnnnn! We need a 30th Anniversary Collector’s edition in 2012!! I sent you email on your “contact” page – buzz me back when you land. Be safe in your travels!
Hello Jane, my name is Maureen from the UK. I followed your video Jane Fonda workout many years ago when I was a lot younger. I am a lot older now (over 60), and it was only by chance I found out you were doing a DVD for older people like myself through our newspapers and TV that I felt I had to try it.
I asked my Sons if they could buy me this for Christmas and was so surprised when I opened my present Christmas day and found your DVD Prime Time Fit & Strong, and even further when I opened my other present and found another Prime Time DVD called Walk Out. I have been doing these religiously everyday and feel so much better and fitter.
My son’s commented when they were watching me that you were a very good teacher in how you explain things, and when you take us through the routines you make people feel at ease. I think you have an amazing body and you are very youthful and young looking and I hope that if I keep working on these exercises I will look as good as you. My Sons said there is another DVD you brought out in December this year, so they will pick that up for me as well. Cheerio Jane, and have a wonderful New Year, you are an inspiration.
Maureen.
wooooooooo–does this ever make me happy, Maureen. Thanks.
Fit & Strong DVD to the rescue after the 800 mile drive home yesterday. Helped loosen things up and start the day. Now to clean out the fridge! I emerged from workout to find my teen kids (who slept til 11am) making pizza for breakfast. Mom’s work is never done…Party’s over. Training for cycling event and 3 triathlons this year. Time to tweak the eating habits again. I don’t diet, but I can do better than pizza for breakfast. It’s a journey. Thanks for leading the way!
Jane,
Again, don’t post- I’m all over this thread. Sorry….
Just a quick note to say how much it sickens me to read these horrible posts from Vietnam vets on FB & Twitter. Do you have a friendly lawyer who can smack this stuff down? I hate it that these people have a voice online (and that children are reading this!) There’s even a Hanoi page on Facebook (which needs to be reported and taken down). These people make all military look bad. It’s sick. So tempting to reply to these posts, but I know it’s best not to engage. Sigh. This takes cyberbullying to a whole new level (very relevant in my teen kids’ world). Glad you’ve got thicker skin than I do. In case you don’t, just sending a quick hug (and another high five to your Royal Hotness at the Golden Globes). As a blogger wrote, Hell to the yeah, Baby!
On another note, I want to be brand manager/party captain when you re-release the original workout series (perhaps with modifications for gals who remember/think they can still do it, but need to scale back). There’s a Reebok video that has 3 gals doing variations of the same exercises. Workouts are fine the way they are (I want them allll) but maybe you can tack on a few extra demos/warnings for people whose memories are in better shape than their bodies.
Heading into training mode for Ride the Rockies cycling tour soon (you’re coming…) so I’ll need all the help I can get. Heck of a ride, usually 380-ish miles in 6 days, camping each night. This for a gal who dreamed of being a Rockette!
Hope you rest soon. Come back to Colorado! Xo
Hi, I’m new here and I realize that your post has been up a while, but I just wanted to let you and others know that the means for reporting a page is on your web browser. Just go to Tools > Smart Screen Filter > Report unsafe page. (It used to be easier to find.)
Hi Jane
You are the greatest! I love all you workouts since the ’80…
I recently bought all your new DVD and really enjoy every one of them.
I try to WALK OUT almost every day and even combine both routines into one 40 min workout. It would be awesome if you would include such an option on a new version of this DVD – just combine the two together, living out the stretching part at the end of the 1st slower walk.
ANd thanks for all your great work.
Danutka
Hello Jane, I live in Netherlands, in a village near the sea. When I was young I followed you already intensive. I did the workouts and then start jogging for7 years Now I’ve found you again and have ordered the 2 workouts. I find them great. I see you as an example. Also, I have ordered your bio. Thank you for that and i feel strong en firm again. Many greetings Ria
Hello Jane,
My favorite workout is your Lean Routine video. I would like to purchase it on DVD, as I only have an old VHS version, but can’t seem to find it. Is it available on DVD or is there any plan to re-issue it on DVD in the near future? Either that or digital down-load that can be purchased and downloaded right from this site onto a portable hard-drive that then plays thru a TV. Thanks for your time!
Colleen
Colleen, I’ll get back to you on this. xx
Man o man, we’ve kept this thread rolling! Loved Trim, Tone & Flex DVD, too! Used 8 lb weights, no chair, no towel (haha, showoff!) Been working on balance in a mind-blowing yoga class and am pretty darn solid (and I love it when you call yourself out on this). Great workout & stretch – was feelin’ it the next day. Next challenge: Ride the Rockies (cycling tour) just posted the new route. Gunnison to Ft. Collins via Hotchkiss, Aspen, Leadville and Estes Park! Only 442 miles, including 2 Natl Parks, Independence Pass and Trail Ridge Road, 6 days, with nearly 28,000 ft elevation gain! Dammit, I’m a sucker for pain and gain! How’s that for Prime Time? Come along? You gotta do Indy Pass and Trail Ridge Rd! Only 2,000 riders via lottery. Yee ha!
I’m late to this party. But I just found “Fit & Strong.” Since I don’t perspire (condition known as anhidrosis), I can’t do a lot of aerobic exercise. So I was very pleased to find “Fit & Strong.” Got it just before Christmas. Found I could do the more difficult series. It only took about 3 weeks to see my arms tone again. Liked it so much, I purchased “Walk Out.” In a few weeks I could do 15 minutes. I realise I may not be able to do this one in summer, but I can use “Fit & Strong” then. You probably didn’t have those of us with anhidrosis in mind when you developed this workout, but it’s just the ticket for me. Thanks! Maya
I just start watching your videos on youtube and I love your workout dvds. Where can I get the beginners 1 and beginners 2 dvd workout. Also the advanced 1 and advanced 2 workout dvds to buy. I cannot find them anywhere. Thanks
Stefany, are you talking about my new Prime Time workouts for boomers and seniors or my old ones?
Hi Jane,
. The reason I love it so much is you don’t rush through the routine and that’s exactly what I want and that it feels like I can feel the muscle getting stronger and I feel like if I keep doing this and more then I’ll finally have the self confidence I need and its all thanks to you.
I just want to say that I LOVE your Fit and Strong and Walk Out DVD’s. My mom bought me the kit that came with 2 weights after she saw me struggling trying to keep up with the biggest loser game for the x-box 360 and she said here try this and i have for about 2 weeks now and last night I saw a small muscle on my arm and I freaked out I was so happy
Love Always
Danielle W
Are you working on a yoga DVD? If so, when does it come out? I love yoga!
I just finished my new Prime Time yoga DVD and it will either come out in Sept or end of Nov. xx
Yay Hooray! Every day I use one of your four latest exercise DVDs, and have been longing (yes – longing) for either your first Yoga tape to come out on DVD or for you to do another. I love working out with you! You are a terrific inspiration to me and you make exercising fun. I miss doing the yoga workout because of all the warmup exercises you did to get us to the Sun Salutation. I’ve tried many other yoga exercises, and they all just jump right in to the poses – it’s just too fast for me. When I did the downward dog with your tape, I could actually feel the heat in my midsection, something that just doesn’t occur when I do other yoga DVDs.
Thank you Jane!
Jane,
I used to do aerobics with your VCRs years ago and was very happy to find you now have DVDs for an older age bracket. I have several and love them. I use them 5 times a week. And I particularly enjoy the meditation segment. For me, there is a calming effect that actually stays with me afterwards.
So I wanted to thank you. I admire your concern and care for people.
Connie
Connie, so glad for the feedback.
Jane
Sorry, I hate to exercise at home. I prefer to take long walks. But 25 years ago that I am a follower of Jane Fonda. You showed me that it is possible to slow aging and live longer with health. I am 51 years old, but does not seem to have more than 35, and that’s fantastic, because I love to be young. I took this photo last month. Jane, is not out of vanity or futility, I want to be “always” young, is because being young is much better and more exciting. Thanks Jane, for showing me that it is possible to be young and healthy for much longer
Sorry for my bad english
Thanks
Hi Jane…
I have been exercising with you since “tapes”!!! LOL I am so happy that you have added your new Prime Time DVD’s. I am a baby boomer and have recently found that lately I have had a few minor injuries to my muscles due to more intense programs. Prime Time gives me the fitness I need without the injury!! So from me a big “Thank You”!!!
Since I have all your new DVD’s I can’t wait until your new Prime Time yoga is out, since I love yoga too, cause it helps with my tinnitus (another getting older problem); surprised yoga can help ear problems too….but it does. I’m also hoping & wishing that since muscles don’t end at the neck, you would come out with a facial workout in the near future. Who wants facial sagging??? I have a few facial workout DVD’s but how do you get any motivation when the instructors are 20 something!!!
Well just wanted to jot down a few words of my appreciation for your dedication of fitness for all ages….Big Thanks !!!!!!
Hi Jane from Christine in New Zealand. I hope I can find your DVD’s here. I did your original workout and still have the vinyl record and two workout books. No VHS machine that was affordable here then. In 2002 your original workout was the first thing I did during recovery from a breakdown and depression. The very first thing I did for myself and it was wonderful. I bought your first book and enjoyed it immensely. I saw you on Dr Oz this week during my lunch break at work – so good. I am so sorry your Dad had depression and for the impact it had on your family life. My husband had a breakdown and depression and I had know idea how to deal with it, or any help save for library books. He was a great help when it was my turn. Things in life can become so intense and you can get all used up caring for loved ones and forgetting about yourself. I understand your comments on Dr Oz about discovering your true self and can relate to that so much. I am still growing. I am blessed with a my darling hubby and two cats and am thankful everyday for good friends. Take care, keep on being you and God bless.
thanks, Christine..ah yes, cats and a good hubby. That’ll do it every time. As for me, it’s dogs and a good lover!!!
Have all of your new DVDs and all of the older ones Icould find. Can’t wait for the yoda one. Thanks so much
After your original workout, I have now “graduated” to “trim tone and flex”. Great as expected. One critique though. As a former computer programmer, I have lots of hand and wrist issues. When you demonstrate the wrist fstretch you pull back the fingers. I was always taught that it is MUCH safer and a better stretch to pull back the palm of the hand. One of the women in the back does it that way but if you re-release it or use it elsewhere the pakmer stretch should be used.
But I couldn’t believe it, I still got the burn after all these years.
Thank you
Hello jane
Iam new to your website and Iam way behind in reading the blogs but Iam aware of the workout videos but I am a old diehard i used to use your old workout back in the 80s. i even have the book you wrote. anyhow I have been looking over your website and have enjoyed the pictures and all the replys you do. just wanted you to know. I have a question about exersise Iam trying to walk more but Iam having trouble on what to waer in thwewineter months and wanted to ask you what brand name of clothing would you suggest to wear to keep me dry and warm. as the winter monhs will be coming later & Iam looking for clothes that is not so pricey. thanks for reading.
Thankyou and take care.
Gina
Thanks to Jane for her fantastic new trim tone and flex DVD. I cant believe I have actually found exercises I can do I am 58 and suffer from osteoathritis of the lumbar spine. My lack of mobility has caused me to gain 4 stone in weight
The last Doctor I seen said to me that my spine ’was done’. I refused to believe this and manage to still work with the help of painkillers.
I knew I had to find an exercise that I can do as well as my swim class,in order to stop me from ’seizing up’.
I tried a pilates class and was very embarrassed to find I was the only one in the class that could not do any of the exercises. Pilates exercises did not seem as if they would help me. There was lots of back arching and other severe stretching going on. I came out of that class very upset but still determined to find something I could do without hurting myself. I have always been a fan of Jane and used to do her exercises when I was a lot younger.
I have just bought her new trim tone and flex dvd and put it on yesterday. HEY PRESTO I managed both upper and lower workouts with no bother at all.
I liked the fact that most of Janes exercises were standing or sitting with only a few floor ones which I also managed to do with a padded floor mat. Jane knows her stuff and it shows. She shows you how to protect the joints and aging spine. I will do these exercises daily and can’t thank her enough for getting me mobile again
I can highly recommend this workout
I have started to count the cals now too so will keep you posted.
Thanks again Jane.
Jane, you are the best! I used to use your workout video years ago and did it every day. I had bad problems that completely went away! I have every one of your new DVD’s, and use them daily. You are and have been a blessing to me for years.
I hope to be able to find the Original Workout on DVD. Also, someone above mentioned that a DVD consisting of a combination of The Walkout plus Firm and Burn together with the cooldown stretches at the end would be a perfect combination in a new DVD
Thank you for the wonderful work you do. I will always be grateful for it.
I have been using your exercise videos since the first step vhs came out. I was wondering if you had plans to put those first workouts on dvd format. I am referring to “Step and Stretch” “The Lower Body Solution” And the first step video. These three have kept me lean and mean for 20 years! But I am on my 4th set of vhs tapes because I burn through them! They are the best work outs and I thank you!
Hi Jane. Always been a fan and amazed how fantastic you look. I am 63, weigh 120 lbs and have exercised (sporadically) off and on but would like to know which workout DVDs you would suggest for me. I am healthy but would like to be more limber and turn my “wings” and other floppy bits into muscle. Can you help?
Gabrielle, check out my Prime Time DVDs.
Jane I have been using your tapes since the eighties. Thank you so much for all that you have done to make fitness easy and accessible to everyone. My Low Impact Tape ( the third one I have bought) is on it’s last legs. Will it ever come out on DVD or at least a down load on I tunes. I would miss the gang terribly if I couldn’t dance around my living room with all of you.
Hi Jane I wrote you a review on the 11th June saying how I was so pleased at being able to manage you prime time Trim Tone and Flex
Can you tell me if your other Prime time work outs are similar …many thanks and your are an inspiration. Catherine
Catherine, each one is a little dufferent
Hi Jane!
Like some of your previous posters, I grew up with my Mom doing your workout videos and pretty much as soon as I could, I threw on some leg warmers and made it burn right along with her.
My entire reason for still having a VCR is so I can do your original Jane Fonda’s Workout Challenge (the one where you wear that fabulous purple and pink striped leotard!). Please, is there any way to get it on DVD? I read one of your posts that said you might make some of the older videos available for download? That would be great.
You are amazing and I believe my lifelong love of exercise and staying healthy all started with you. Thank you!
Sarah
Sarah, I’m trying….
Hi Jane,
Like Sarah above me here, I’m looking for the Jane Fonda Workout Challange from 1982 on DVD. I used to do it all the time when I was in high school and college and the isometric exercises on it are great!! as well as the aerobic part. Are there any other of your DVD’s with similar isometrics available?
Thanks so much!!
Beth
Beth, no, there is not one quite like “The Challenge.” But I won’t be releasing that on DVD. xx Jane
Greetings!
I wanted to tell you when you humbled yourself and got on your knees and begged us to do something, you touched me.
I had been looking for a walking video for older people and all I saw were youngsters.
I am 63 and I saw how wonderfully healthy you look at your age and you gave me hope.
I enjoy the video’s and feel refreshed and ready to go after working out.
Please except my heartfelt thanks welcome back you were missed, and needed.
Jane and all who are interested in working out to maintain our health and wellness. As a medical researcher I have come across a solution for female urinary incontinance that is not painful and does provide results. The new device enables women to accurately improve upon their kegal exercises. The device does not use any torture method of electrical shocks. In the privacy of your home or a public bathroom one can do the exercises correctly. This leads to improved strength of vaginal muscles aiding sexual function and importantly can prevent or reduce the degree of urinary incontinence. Please let me know if you would like to learn more.
Jane, I have been exercising to your 1981 Jane Fonda Workout cassette tape since then. My tape is work out from so much use.
Can I get it on a CD?
Please respond….Joan
What’s it called, Joan. I made many back then.
The workout is called “Jane Fonda Workout”. It came out on cassette tape in about 1981. The cover has a picture of you in black & red leotards with your feet up in the air. I have it and have used it so much the tape is worn out from frequent exercising to it. Can I get it on a CD, or a DVD. I don’t really need the video as I know the routine so very well.
My preference is on a CD so I can continue my work out. Or, even on a cassette if not available on a CD.
I have your newest CD’s….Firm & Burn, etc. They are excellent. I find the the “Jane Fonda Workout” to be more vigorous & a more comprehensive work out.
You inspire all of us….Thank you so much for doing so.
Joan
Dear Joan, alas, the very first of my workout videos is the one you refer to. I have considered re-releasing it as a DVD but, after consulting with exercise physiologists, we decided not too. We don;t do the very rapid moves and bounces anymore. It’s too out-dated from a physiological standpoint. That said, it was very effective. xx
Hi Jane,
I recently got your Prime Time “Firm & Burn” DVD and I am following it on daily basis. It really makes me feel good. Love the low impact aerobics – specially the old-school funk part!
Can you please tell me how many calories would a single session of this DVD burn if I do all the 3 workouts together along with the warm-up and cool-down? Actually I am doing it daily and want to estimate what impact it would have on my weight on month end or so.
Would really really appreciate your response.
Thanks in advance
Kiran, it depends how you’re eating xx
Hello Jane, I just want to thank you for all the good workouts program you make available for us. I started your workouts in the 80s when I purchased your Complete Workout VHS, the one with your mother as part of the crew, then I move up to the Challenge (Sydney Galanty) and the in 1990, during my pregnancy, I purchased the Pregnancy, Birth & Recovery VHS, my baby really enjoyed the massage. I still have these VHS and sometimes will do them. I wish I could find the DVD version of these. I now have your recent DVD and train regularly. So thank you so much for all these years of fitness and fun xxxxoxoxox
Dear Jane, I worked out with your videos during the 80′s and 90′s and loved them. I had both my hips replaced in 1989 and you helped me rehabilitate. I will be 68 this year and I found all your new dvd’s – I love them. I especially like the dance routines on firm and burn – please, please make another dvd with dance routines so I can have more variety. You are such an inspiration to me! Since I’ve had my hips for nearly 24 years (a real miracle)I was so impressed when you talked about your hip and knee replacement. Thanks for your help getting back on the fittness track. Bobbi PS – please reply about a new dvd.
Those dance routine dvds are the hardest to do, the longest to do with the most rehearsal time. I’m not sure I will have time any time soon to do another one of those. I was thinking of one just for abs, buns and thighs, but don’t know when I;d have time for that this year. but I will keep your request in mind. Thanks. I’m glad they’ve helped you. xx
I love exercising and I have a huge DVD collection. “Firm & Burn” is my number 1 favorite DVD! It’s so much fun.
I really hope you’ll do more cardio workouts in the future. But I’d love an abs and/or Pilates workout too.
Hi Jane,
I have been looking for one of your a videos that I use to do and loved from the late 80′s early 90′s. It had you laying on the ground doing inner and out thigh, then kicking your foot in and out and then up towards the ceiling ina sequence, hen then on your knees kicking your heels to the ceiling?? I loved this and really would like to get another copy of DVD if possible?
Hi Jane,
I am such a fan of yours! I did your work out videos years ago and really loved them. As years have gone by, other workout videos have come and gone. I am getting ready to turn 55 in June, and just can’t keep up with all these new workout videos. My body just doesn’t move as quickly as it used to! LOL
After reading everyone’s comments, I am going to buy your workout videos. I really believe I will be able to keep doing them on a regular basis and not think they will be too much for me! I have tried to exercise and stay active over the years, but unfortunately my mind thinks I can keep up with the 20 year olds!
By the way, I have loved all your movies and books as well. Keep them coming!
How can an average person win a trip to your ranch! I would so love it!!
Thanks for all your hard work,
Ann Dunham
Let me know how you like my DVDs.
Every time I do the Firm and Burn Workout I say I am going to email Jane and tell her how great this dvd is! I am 53 and have fibromyalgia and your dvds do not set me up into a fibro flare! I bought them all! I used to work out to your vinyl workout and did the walkout. I really got into exercising because of you. Then in my 40′s I had major health issues that turned out to be hypothyroidism and electrolytes. I could pass out at the drop of a hat so therefore the exercising was out.
I have FINALLY regained my confidence in working out and although I bought all of them my favorite is Firm and Burn. I would like to do the Flex and Tone but not ready yet to get on the floor.
I am going to get a dvd for my mom the Fit and Strong to help her with balance also. She has COPD and I told her and showed her some of the moves she can do that will give herself sure fitting and she can wear her oxygen while she does it. She will have a chair.
The sad part to all of this is that I am so excited about your DVDs and for the most part I tell people about them. I am so sorry to read of comments that people are STILL giving you a hard time about the Vietnam War. I am truly sorry for this. I don’t even know what you said and it doesn’t matter to me. I wrote a blog about doing your dvds and I lost a few followers. That saddened me. Time moves on and I have been doing the Firm and Burn consistently for 2 months. It will be a great benefit to me when gardening season arrives.
I am writing a book and the dvd Firm and Burn will be an influence to my book. I am doing a beta testing group and they are loving the terms. My book is called Dance Till You FLY! De-cluttering your home and your life by doing habits that are created into routines so you may Dance Till You FLY! again! FLY stands for First Love Yourself
I hope I get a response from you. I am just as excited that I have a platform that I can get in contact with you and express my feelings about the DVDs. And YES I love that deep voice that is your boyfriend in the DVD! Cheers!
Marilyn, I am thrilled that my new DVDs have been to good for you. Let me know how your mother responds.
I love the name you’ve found, “Dance till you Fly”! Great. Best of Luck. As for the nasty comments, don’t pay them any mind. I don’t. They are sadly misguided and don’t know the facts. They have to take their anger about the horrible war out somewhere and I make a handy lightning rod.
Hi Jane,
I am a 21 years-old girl from Spain. I think I’m your youngest fan, at least around me.
People looks at me strangely when I say I follow your Workout routine. People underestimate your videos only because they were made long time ago. Only wanted to say you that your videos are the best exercise I have ever made, the most complete and entertaining. I have noticed my body prettier, and I’m so proud of doing the same exercises you made before.
Thank you for help so many people. And thank you also for your memories “My life so far” because you gave me the best present someone could give me: moral lessons and advices that took you all your life to learn.
Best wishes,
Lucía
I’m 64 and have been working out regularly since the age of 50. What really keeps me moving is fun MUsic. I love your vhs Favorite Fat Burners for its MUsic and fun moves and would like to share it on youtube either in its entirety and if not then just short samples of each routine with your permission since most people do not even have a vcr anymore. It would be sad to let this wonderful footage go to waste. My youtube channel is pombarb
Jane,
I never liked to practice exercise, but then decided to change to keep up your work. You are wonderful. bjs
Hello Jane,
Every day, i practice your exercises and it’s very good for me. Thank you for that !!
I’d like to ask you something : i’ve got two vhs of your exercises in 1992 ( pregnancy birth and recovery and complete workout). I can’t read them anylonger and i’d like to know if you could do them in dvd.
All your workout are the best exercises that i did and i’d like to tell you that you’re a wonderfull people.
Thank you for all the things that you do for me and all people
Thanks, Christine. We are still working on the issue of putting some (not all) of my old videos on DVD. Stay tuned.
